00:00I'm going to make your live body hands hold and make me feel good.
00:14I don't make me feel bad.
00:15I was going to say you're doing it.
00:17For anybody who is now here, my name is Blaine Mink.
00:20I am a music style editor here at Justice Magazine.
00:23And I want to welcome you all to the first day of music carnival.
00:27We are so excited to meet you in person with you all.
00:29Again, for a better year, it's so, so, so exciting.
00:33So, I know speech is just a greater test.
00:36But right now, we're going to wind down a beat.
00:39And you're from school, you're waiting for science to be a technology.
00:43Can you all join me in one place?
00:44It's the same, two, three.
00:46Only senior brand manager of digital content.
00:53Hello, everyone.
00:54Welcome.
00:56I love to see all y'all's beautiful fans here today.
00:59And I am so excited to talk to you about the joy of black skin care and how you often show up and live up today and beyond.
01:09So, you know, there's a lot of science that goes into products that keep our skin looking healthy and glowing.
01:14And I am so excited to have two amazing scientists and form-certified dermatologists here today to talk to us about the science behind our skin care and give us some great pointers on how you can stay looking fabulous.
01:28So, just to help set the stage, you know, Olay is a brand with 70 years of superior skin science.
01:37But we are also on mission to help double the number of women and triple the number of women of color in STEM, math, science, technology, engineering, and math fields by 2030.
01:49And so, we know that, unfortunately, there's a massive gap in representation of women and women of color in STEM.
01:56It's about 27% of women in the STEM workforce, and that's 2% of women of color, so we clearly have some work to do.
02:05And Olay is being willing to be already committing $2 million towards tactics to help close that STEM gap by donating scholarships to HBCU, women in STEM, and sending 1,200 girls to home camp this year with black girls girls.
02:23Well, I love that.
02:26And so, we know that we still need more women in front of the look like us in STEM.
02:30Do you have any future STEM leaders out there, potentially?
02:33I love it. Yes, raise your hand.
02:37So, we know that we need you all in Olay, as well, to help us develop products that address our specific needs and concerns for our skin.
02:45And so, I'm excited to have 3 black women in STEM here with us today to talk about the toy in the black skin care.
02:53And give us some tips on the right products that can help us flow from head to toe.
02:57So, without further ado, I want to introduce you to our panelists.
03:02And first up, we have Dr. Love.
03:05Dr. Love is a board-certified dermatologist practicing at Gramercy Laser and Medical Dermatology in New York City.
03:13Welcome.
03:14Nice.
03:15Super exciting to be here.
03:16Next up, we have Dr. Rolani Watkinson, who is the Senior Director at B.S. I.H.S. for Olay Skin Care and Multicultural Hair Care.
03:28And we have Dr. Myesha Jones, who currently serves as Olay Bodhi's Principal Scientist.
03:35Welcome, welcome.
03:40So, now that we have these amazing women here at Sautja's and give us some tips, let's dive deep into the science of black skin and the joy of black skin and celebrating the beautiful melanin skin we have.
03:54So, many of us know what melanin is, but raise your hand if you know why melanin skin is so unique.
04:01Any hands out there, I will not learn to do that.
04:05So, Dr. Love, can you please tell us what makes our melanin skin so special?
04:13How melanin is the pigment that makes up your skin color.
04:17So, the darker your skin color, the more melanin you can plus it.
04:22And, of course, it's the beauty of your radiant skin tone.
04:25But, we do know that melanin skin also gives more growth to shape her imitation and warm her into dirt spots.
04:33She also wanted for a little bit more protection from the sun, sprung with sprung, developing by 1934, sprung in her life.
04:42And we also wanted to use brightness in something like this in the skin of a little bit different lands.
04:49But, people who are supposed to be a certain type of skin, so there's a little bit more blood pressure on the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin.
04:56So, overall melanin skin is a few of the enrichment and rich, but we definitely have our own weaknesses in the skin of the skin of the skin of the skin.
05:03Okay. That was very good to know.
05:05And I know SPM is super important, isn't that right?
05:08That's so correct.
05:09So, the question is, you will think that any darker skin to the 2-2 skin of skin?
05:13Yeah.
05:13What we know is that we have an actual SM of肌 ungdomed skin in little bit more than 4 to 7.
05:18Looking заметive in multiple portions, it still represents SM of 3.
05:23So, it doesn't need SM of the Mink of venases.
05:25Okay, I mean not that a good Papa or no you have a paranoid somewhere as well.
05:29So, we know, you know, that there are some skin concerns that a lot of us may have.
05:34And we'd love to know Dr. Luke, what are some common skin concerns you typically see with your patients, someone who use concern.
05:40Yeah.
05:41Number one, it's going to be hyperpigmentation, and that's just because with water and skin type, no matter what happens to it, and hyperpigmentation.
05:48So, we've got a few patients who come from hyperpigmentation, but we've got some patients who come from hyperpigmentation, which is something.
05:55Uh, purple ones, with our melanin, but our melanin is also very, very sensitive, so it's a long term of a reaction.
06:03Another thing is dryness, and this is something that I commonly see, I think about this.
06:08And then the third thing that I see most, and it's just completely the same texture.
06:12I feel like it's getting a little too rough, and a little too.
06:15It's actually like the main things that I see these.
06:18Okay, okay, this is all good information.
06:21And we know, then, that it's important that we get to see a dermatologist, give them things checked out.
06:27And I think we've all heard this the next phrase, which we're going to do games a little bit more.
06:31How many of y'all have heard about lymphed breath?
06:34Yes, yes.
06:35Now, how many of us believe that it's true as well.
06:38And, a lot of it.
06:40So, Dr. Rolando, please tell us what does this phrase mean?
06:45It is a creature.
06:46Well, what I'm talking about is the notion that validated skin doesn't show signs of aging, such as wrinkles from here to non-validated skin.
06:57And, as Dr. Rolando has raised a very interesting approach.
07:00So, today.
07:01Only, during the days of research, would like within an understanding validated skin.
07:06And, in a multitude of different ethnicity setting, we found that validated skin actually appears a gene to be exceptional skin agents.
07:16And, as to me, that we should not have regular skin care management because of the fact that I've mentioned, our skin changes in different ways.
07:26And, in a study, what I've done is found was that micro-pigment to skin was very, very common in the study.
07:35As well as dry skin.
07:37So, if I've seen this in a page, this is the spoil or seal of production of the batch oil that comes in our pores.
07:44So, as a result, our skin can be drawn under.
07:48And, eventually, it is also going to appear just for an immune infection.
07:52Dr. Love talked about that as well.
07:54So, while we don't have the size of three holes that's frequently, as well as validated skin.
08:01Our skin shall decide to change the aging in different ways.
08:05So, we should have great skin care management.
08:08I love that.
08:09Okay.
08:10Now, speaking again.
08:11We've learned about melanin, common skin care concerns.
08:14And, we've heard about how well labels are said.
08:17So, let's check in on those self-care routines, shall we?
08:20So, raise your hand.
08:21You're doing facial skin care routine, like Dr. Rolanda just mentioned.
08:25Okay.
08:26Alright.
08:27That's good to see.
08:28Alright.
08:29Now, let's see how many of you have any following skin care routine.
08:31Okay.
08:32We're doing it right.
08:34So, Dr. Joe, there's a, you know, a little bit of a difference sometimes.
08:38And how many people have the facial skin care routine versus the body care routine.
08:43So, tell us.
08:44What should we know about establishing its normal body care routine, and not just most people
08:49in the face?
08:50Yeah.
08:51Great question.
08:52We've seen several hands of folks that are taking the care of their body skin.
08:55We feel it should be taking care of our skin from our scalp all the way down to the
09:00seams of our feet.
09:01Well, the skin is the largest organ of the body.
09:03And it helps serve as a protective barrier.
09:06It helps us regulate our body temperature.
09:09And it's just not going to interact with the outside world.
09:12So, we definitely want to make sure we take care of it.
09:14So, because of this normal body skin serves such an important role, it's also important
09:20for us to use when writing our hands on it.
09:22So, you may or may not know that 95% of your total skin is on your body, and only 5% is
09:28on your face.
09:29So, think about, you know, making sure you have that rather complete body care routine,
09:34because if you take care of your body, it's going to take care of it.
09:38Oh, that's beautiful.
09:39So, you mentioned, you know, what ingredients should we be thinking about for skin care routine
09:44or body care routine.
09:45And I'd love to start with you, Dr. Love, for those specific ingredients that you typically
09:49recommend to your patients that can help address, you know, some of our eating certain
09:54issues.
09:55Definitely.
09:56Of course, number one is going to be sun protection.
09:59And that's because we know that sun exposed to the serve of bright and nice pigment production.
10:05And so, by protecting the center of the organization, you really have to be protected from
10:10increased sun exposure.
10:12The second thing that's going to be waiting in C.
10:14Waiting in C is one of the most great ingredients for almost every one of the other two things.
10:21And thus, it is waiting in C.
10:23It helps you protect you from oxidative stress.
10:27We're learning more and more about the condition.
10:29And it helps you turn our pigmentation in the skin.
10:32So, if that's into the brain, we might have been seeing you.
10:35So, we'll see you in the central and break any pigment production.
10:38And then, that's another ingredient that I use with the brain is niacinamide.
10:44Niacinamide is one of those almost-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to.
10:57And then, there's ingredients where it is super gentle on the skin.
11:00And it's why I'm bringing these super radiant skin.
11:02It is a pain that's the skin tone.
11:05It increases moisture in the skin.
11:07And it improves those who have bluntness and then even into the skin.
11:11And the last ingredient is actually pentolatum.
11:15Which I feel like it's a very blunt ingredient.
11:18But it's one of the things we've heard about.
11:20And we're finding the science of pentolatum.
11:23So that it's not sourced to me and just on the outside of the skin.
11:27But it absorbs into the skin.
11:29And I can see the strength of the skin.
11:30And that's those are my key ingredients.
11:32Okay, I love it.
11:33I'm sending minty notes.
11:34I love y'all are too.
11:35We also mentioned vitamin C.
11:37I happen to be a rocking.
11:38The only vitamin C that works for us.
11:40There was a lot of things that we did.
11:42And so, Dr. Levin, you know, we've learned how well they knows our skin.
11:48As I know, you've been very involved with the vitamin C.
11:51Which marks your eyes for development.
11:53So tell us your perspective on what we should be using.
11:56Well, Jason, you said.
11:58All my vitamin C was peptide.
12:00It helps to hydrate the skin.
12:02But also, even the skin tone and the chest of star response.
12:06Which is so very important.
12:08You can't be over-indexed.
12:09But not perfect for the skin.
12:11Now, you said it.
12:12And I love said it.
12:13And why vitamin C is so very important.
12:15In addition to that, we have brought up calcium and biocinamide.
12:19Which is, again, a program.
12:21We had to bring it.
12:22We've done research on my spine for so many years.
12:25And we've been able to show the benefits of that.
12:27Particularly, I think, again, our vitamin C line-up.
12:30We just can't be with this.
12:32We need to bring up the G-C.
12:33We're looking at the tissue of the skin.
12:34We're looking at the tissue of the skin.
12:35We're looking at some of the things.
12:36Awesome.
12:37Awesome.
12:38All right.
12:39Documentation.
12:40Tell us your thoughts as well.
12:41What a little bit about.
12:42Yes.
12:43For my body health care perspective.
12:44Certainly, Olay wants to take care of you from head to toe, as I mentioned.
12:47So, we're trying to remember talking about what to do in your face.
12:50But we've also got vitamin C in our body care products.
12:53So, we have a vitamin C moisturizing body wash that is super creamy.
12:58It has a great lather.
13:00It feels amazing.
13:01It smells amazing in the shower.
13:03But what you're going to be left with after you shower is very hydrated skin.
13:07Long-lasting moisturization.
13:09And if you've all fed up with our only liquid vitamin C body lotion, you're going to get
13:16instant hydration as well as, again, long-lasting hydration.
13:19So, you won't have to be reapplying every day.
13:21And so, we've got to cover it from head to toe.
13:24It doesn't like my head.
13:25I cannot leave out an SPF taking.
13:28So, just to reiterate what you talked about, Dr. Love is so very important for us to use
13:34an SPF important time.
13:36And if you're out in the sun during the day all day, make sure you're reapplying.
13:41Well, then.
13:42Wonderful.
13:43Well, y'all, this has been super insightful for me.
13:45And I hope it's been the same for you.
13:47Now, we know what to do.
13:49My only products work for us.
13:50We're all in front of it.
13:51It's not new keys on SPF.
13:53And I just want to thank our panelists for being here with us today
13:57and giving us tips so that we can grace the joy of life's skincare.
14:01Now, I also want to say you take three amazing examples of black women in SPM.
14:07So, if you or someone you know is interested in entering SPM,
14:12please find the PMG booth right behind you and talk to some of our recruiting team.
14:17We'd love to have you join us at PMG.
14:20And really open fire the next generation of SPM leaders.
14:23So, thank you all for your time.
14:25Thank you for your panelists.
14:26And thank you, too.
14:34Thanks for joining us on the show.
14:36Thank you very much.
