00:00Hi, I'm Steve Bristow, the Design Director on The Legend of Komori.
00:05We're an open-world game that's set in the 13th century in Mongolia,
00:09and we're entering Early Access next month.
00:12During Early Access, your choices will shape the journey through a system-driven experience,
00:17while the final game will include a crafted narrative.
00:21So, it's a new day, and I'm playing the role of Nara, a Yam Kuria rider.
00:26Genghis Khan established the Yam system in the 13th century to support communications across his vast empire.
00:34Kurias delivered goods and messages across Mongolia.
00:37It was a bit like Pony Express, except for being far more prestigious.
00:44To start my adventure, I'll check with Yisu at the Yam station.
00:48Yisu's my captain. She commands the local station.
00:52There's a few delivery missions available, but there's one that catches my eye.
00:56It pays well, and provides a lot of prestige, which helps me increase my career rank.
01:03Preparation and planning is the most important part of a delivery mission.
01:07That preparation starts with picking your horse.
01:10The mission takes me into the beautiful and diverse mountains of Mongolia.
01:14They're also freezing cold and full of treacherous terrain.
01:17I'll need a horse that can handle the climb, but more importantly, the cold.
01:22Looking over my horse, Sarnay is my choice.
01:25She has good endurance and balance, and she can handle the cold and the terrain.
01:29And I'll check my saddlebags.
01:35That's a mess. I really should have dealt with this before I rested.
01:39I won't need this stone, but I'll keep that Angelica and Thyme for later.
01:42Now I need to balance my cargo.
01:46If I don't, Sarnay will have a harder time and could even get hurt.
01:52There we go. Perfectly balanced.
01:55The next step is to craft some gear for the trip.
01:57The mountains get extremely cold, so I'll craft a few cold tonics and a couple of bandages too,
02:02in case Sarnay gets hurt.
02:03Okay, cold tonics, bandages, ah, one more thing.
02:09My horse needs food on our travels.
02:11Normally she could just eat grass, but grass is sparser in the mountains,
02:14so I'll need some hay to feed my horse.
02:16Luckily I got some from the stable.
02:19Before you leave, it's a good idea to know where you're going.
02:22Planning a good route is essential.
02:25There's a shorter route, but it's more dangerous.
02:27My other option is longer, but it's safer, and I know the trails.
02:33My horse has a limited amount of stamina.
02:37These climbs are never easy, especially when it's icy.
02:40I'll need to pay attention to her stamina and take paths that are easier on her.
02:45You'll find resources along the way, and it's always good to grab them when you can.
02:49And just like a true Mongolian horse rider, I don't have to get off my horse to gather them.
02:54Perfect. That gives me a nice little boost.
02:58The elements and terrain aren't just a danger to a yam career.
03:01There's also dangerous wild animals.
03:03Ah, a pack of wolves.
03:06I could shoot the wolves with arrows, but there's too many of them.
03:09Thankfully I have just the thing for this situation.
03:11Animal-repellent pouches can be attached to arrows.
03:14I always carry a couple just in case.
03:17If I fire one near the pack, it will make them scatter.
03:21That's one pack of wolves dealt with, and I didn't have to hurt them.
03:24Perfect.
03:27Physical danger isn't the only risk with wild animals.
03:29Predators like wolves scare your horse, which impacts the horse's mood.
03:33A horse with a low mood loses stamina faster and can't train as well.
03:38This storm is nasty.
03:40Weather is an important part of the game, and you'll need to prepare for it.
03:43I'll give Sarnay a cold tonic to protect her from the cold.
03:49I'm glad it's not much further.
03:51I've reached my destination, Tangerin Orgil Retreat.
03:59They say the spirit of this place is strong and watches over the people.
04:03That's Altani, the village shaman.
04:05Let's deliver this cargo.
04:06Great, a new career rank.
04:09I've been looking forward to those unlocks.
04:12Looks like I won't make it back to town before dark.
04:15It's best to rest at night to recover health and stamina.
04:18I'll need to find a place to camp for the night.
04:20Checking my map, I see that there's a campsite nearby.
04:25I've got a nomad camping kit in my inventory, and I can use it to set up camp.
04:29Sarnay's had a hard ride.
04:33Caring for your horse is important.
04:35It helps them heal and removes negative conditions.
04:38She's in good shape after the ride, so I'll brush her and tend her hooves before bed.
04:43That'll increase her mood and restore her health.
04:48Now all that's left to do is go to sleep and wake up with the sun.
04:59Well, it's a new day.
05:00Let's hope this one involves fewer wolves.
05:04And that's a bear.
05:07But that's a challenge for another day.
05:11Welcome to life in the untamed wilds of the 13th century Mongolia.
05:15So that was the story of my delivery, but what's yours?
05:18Tell us next month when the legend of Kimori hits early access.
05:29We'll be right back.
05:38We'll be right back.
