00:00U.S. and Iranian officials are arriving in Oman on Friday for planned talks on Iran's
00:07nuclear capabilities.
00:09It will be the first diplomatic encounter between the two nations since the U.S. joined
00:14Israel's conflict with Iran in June with strikes on nuclear sites.
00:19The talks, led by U.S. Envoy Steve Whitcoff and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi,
00:24come just weeks after a wave of anti-government protests across Iran,
00:29during which the U.S. threatened military action.
00:32The president has obviously been quite clear in his demands of the Iranian regime.
00:38Zero nuclear capability is something he's been very explicit about,
00:41and he wants to see if a deal can be struck.
00:45And while these negotiations are taking place, I would remind the Iranian regime
00:49that the president has many options at his disposal, aside from diplomacy,
00:54as the commander-in-chief of the most powerful military in the history of the world.
00:58The scope of the negotiations remains unclear,
01:01and there had been tensions in the run-up to the talks over whether the meeting should also address
01:05Tehran's support of proxies and its ballistic missile programs,
01:09two U.S. concerns that Iran resisted.
01:12With the American threats of military action still looming,
01:16the United States has maneuvered a naval group led by aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln into the region,
01:22while Iran has repeatedly vowed it will hit back at U.S. bases if attacked.
