00:16Norfolk, Virginia, and I am a She Got Now honoree. The She Got Now phrase is a tremendous honor. When
00:24I graduated from Norfolk State, you could not have told me that I would have had the life that
00:29I've had. I've had some amazing things happen to me. I went on to be a Paralympic gold medalist,
00:36a Paralympic world record holder, so I've won many gold medals. I've won many world records,
00:41broken many world records, and I've done some really, really amazing things. I know years ago,
00:47I assisted First Lady Michelle Obama, you know, doing the Let's Move campaign, you know, helping
00:53kids get active. Second honoree for She's Got Now, Simone Thomas is a senior political science
01:01major from Killen, Texas. She maintains a 3.7 GPA in her coursework, and she serves as a Norfolk
01:09State University student representative on the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
01:15It's just looking at young women in our community and who are going through school, just showing
01:23those levels of leadership and out there doing community service and really participating and
01:28engaging with their communities, just showcasing those young women across our nation. She's also
01:33currently president of the Norfolk State University chapter of the Young Dems. Okay, so the first thing
01:40I did when I saw the email, I called my mom, because who doesn't? To be a She Got Now nominee this year,
01:48I'm still processing it. It's just, you never think, like, you do all this work in the beginning,
01:54you never think, you don't want to get rewarded for it, you know, it's just something that you do,
01:58something you like to do, and then when you do, you're just like, oh, hmm, maybe I'm doing something.
02:03I'm doing something right. I still can't fathom the fact that I was nominated.
02:07I was at an event on Saturday where Simone was there, we were chatting, and she always tells me
02:17that it is her intention to become a Supreme Court Justice. I know that she will be able to meet that
02:24goal. She is amazing.
