00:12like to introduce you to the Jackson State University She's Got Now honorees. My name is
00:17Rita Brent. I'm from Jackson, Mississippi, and I went to Jackson State University. I'm a 2009
00:22graduate, and I am honored to be a She's Got Now honoree. Well, I think it means exactly what it
00:29says. It means that I have now in the terms of being a leader, in the terms of being a woman
00:34who's able to follow her dreams and not be held back by any societal standards that said a woman
00:40couldn't do certain things. Here it is. I'm a black comedian, and I'm a black drummer. I'm a black
00:45musician. So She's Got Now means that women can do anything. I am Deja Davis, a senior business
00:52marketing major, and I currently serve as the 81st Miss Jackson State University, and I've got now.
00:58To be a She's Got Now honoree means so much to me because it's like, wow, I'm really being honored
01:06in this capacity. Just being recognized by Pepsi in essence means the world to me because if you
01:13would have told me that my freshman year, I would have looked at you like you were crazy. So just being
01:18able to be honored and recognized from the work that I've been doing at my tenure here at Jackson State
01:24University means so much. HBCUs are so special and definitely dear to me because they bring so
01:33much opportunity and space for growth. And you're surrounded by so much black excellence. And HBCUs
01:40are also special because they were brought to us by us for us. And, you know, back then our ancestors
01:47established HBCUs because no one else would give us a higher education. Attending the HBCU has
01:54definitely helped find myself. It's helped me embrace who I am today. It has molded me into the
02:00woman that I am today. It has taught me so much. And just coming to HBCU has taught me that you can fail
02:07so many times, but there's always going to be someone to uplift you, motivate you, encourage you to be the
02:12best version of yourself that you could possibly ever be. So this idea of she got now, it's something that
02:19started while I was at Jackson State University when I was pledging Delta Sigma Theta sorority being a leader and
02:26an exemplary role model on campus. Jackson State set me up for success. So now I got it. I got it because
02:34Jackson State gave it to me. And I'm excited to give the joy that I got at Jackson State back to the world. Shout out to
02:40everybody at Jackson State. Also, big shout out to Coach Prime, who's the new football coach at Jackson
02:46State. I know you're going to get us some wins, but as long as we be all corn, that's really all we care
02:51about. And shout out to the Jackson State Tigers.
