RONNIE O’SULLIVAN spectacularly potted an illegal shot on the way to his World Grand Prix exit in Hong Kong.

The snooker GOAT couldn’t help but try to show off with a bizarre jump shot after already securing victory in the third frame.

O’Sullivan was home free in the third frame of his clash with Xiao Guodong, 91-5 up with only colours left on the table.

But, ever the showman, he was not content to return to his seat with victory safe in hand.

Instead,d he lined up the blue ball before popping the cue ball up in the air as he struck it, sending it flying over the blue ball and into the green directly behind.

Similar chip shots are a common sight in pool, but are illegal in snooker.

But that didn’t bother the Rocket, especially as the green somehow bounced off three cushions before dropping perfectly into the corner pocket.

Though the illegal shot did not affect the outcome of the frame, it was not enough to help rally Ronnie back to a victory against the world No. 100, who eventually claimed a 5-3 win to advance to the final eight.

It was another major scalp for the Chinese cueist, having beaten Kyren Wilson in their opener earlier this week.

The pair were the latest in a host of big names to make early exits from the tournament.

Defending champion and world No. 3 Neil Robertson was ousted in his opener after getting thrashed 5-1 by Welshman Jak Jones.

Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy, who contested the German Masters final on Sunday, were both handily beaten by home-nation players in their openers.

Mark Allen, John Higgins, and Mark Williams also fell to defeats in the topsy-turvy tournament, leaving Mark Selby, Xiao Xintong, and Xiao Guodong as the only members of the top-ten-ranked players left in the competition after the opening round.
