00:00No, Greg, no Wiggy, but they did a hell of a job yesterday.
00:02Praise to them.
00:03Wiggy was the star of stars, just pulling in celebs left and right.
00:07And I know that we're not going to say who the star is tomorrow that they're getting,
00:10but Ken did whisper it to me off air.
00:12And let me tell you, I'll be sat for that one.
00:16Okay, Tom Brady.
00:18More excited for that or Cam today?
00:19No, Cam today is, like, for me, and I really do hope that they really go at him.
00:26But tomorrow will be very interesting how that is handled.

00:36The Will Fork cut yesterday has gone pretty viral.
00:39I mean, ESPN played it this morning on Get Up, and here, if you missed it this morning,
00:43his reaction to Brady not having a dog in the fight.
00:47Tom hasn't given an opinion, and we're waiting for an opinion from Tom.
00:50That's bullcrap, Tom.
00:52That's what we said.
00:53Come on, Tom.
00:54Why won't he give it?
00:54All that political, this ain't political.
00:57Yeah.
00:57It ain't political what it is.
00:59Yeah.
00:59Raiders ain't in it.
01:00Thank you, Vince.
01:01That's right.
01:02Say what it is.
01:03What you see.
01:04Yep.
01:05You want to come back and say, hey, I'm a patriot for life, then you should be rooting for him.
01:09Man, look, at the end of the day, if you're a patriot for life, you know what it is.
01:12Don't give me that political bullcrap.
01:14That's just what it is.
01:15That's it.
01:15That's it.
01:16If you don't think we're going to win, just pick Seattle then.
01:18Right.
01:19Don't stride on the fence.
01:21Yeah.
01:22That's what it is.
01:22Don't stride on the fence.
01:2411 years New England, Curtis.
01:26Five Pro Bowls.
01:27Vince Wilfork spanned the dynasties, right?
01:29That was part of the big...
01:31He was one of the glue guys, wouldn't you say?
01:34Definitely.
01:35In the Belichick era?
01:36He's the only non-kicker or player other than Brady to be a part of both.
01:43He won in 04, and then he was part of the team that won in 14.
01:47So pretty cool.
01:48The show started with Teddy Bruschi.
01:49He also weighed in on the Brady situation.
01:52Can we just get one thing out of the way, too, where people are saying, like, I keep hearing
01:55that he has to be impartial, and then the other one I keep hearing is Clint Kubiak.
02:00Like, he doesn't want...
02:00Like, Clint Kubiak would not be deterred from accepting a job with the freaking Raiders
02:07if Tom Brady said, I think the Super Bowl should go to the Patriots.
02:10And the Raiders would not be mad about it either.
02:13It's such as, like, you make such...
02:15Those arguments make it impossible to defend.
02:18That is not at all.
02:19It is a personal issue that Tom has in some capacity that precluded him in that moment
02:24to say he's rooting for the Patriots.
02:26Is it jealousy?
02:26Is it anger?
02:28Is it both?
02:28I don't know.
02:29But it is not his deal with Fox.
02:31Fox does not care of Tom Brady.
02:33If anybody's been a bigger example of the rules not applying to you, Tom Brady is not
02:38going to lose a job a dollar if he says the Patriots should win the Super Bowl.
02:42Like, that's such crap.
02:43We got him.
02:44He's on our side now.
02:45I think he is turning.
02:46The popular opinion has swayed Curtis.
02:48No, I'm just...
02:49You know, I just react and give you my honest opinion with new information.
02:52And here's Teddy Bruschi.
02:54What the hell are you talking about?
02:55The game.
02:55I thought you were going to be Tom Brady.
02:57Tom doesn't have a dog in the race, he said.
03:00Well, that's the way Tom feels.
03:01I got a big-ass dog in the race.
03:03I'm telling you that right now.
03:04That's my boy right there.
03:05You know, Vrabel, eight-year teammate.
03:08You know, like a brother of mine.
03:09I mean, all of us, really.
03:10I mean, it's like we've got a dog in the fight.
03:12My dog is big.
03:13And I'm cheering for him.
03:15I mean, the last couple weeks on Sunday NFL countdown, I'd just be like, put my pick up,
03:19guys.
03:19Yeah.
03:20You know who I'm picking up, put my pick up, because there's no other way I'm going.
03:23I mean, I've loved the way this team has played.
03:25I've loved the way they've won.
03:27That was your lead this morning, Courtney.
03:28Yep.
03:28We're proud of Teddy.
03:30Well, that's exactly what people wanted to hear when it came to Brady.
03:32Like, that's it.
03:33You know, you've got a personal connection with the head coach of the New England Patriots
03:37right now.
03:38Played here forever.
03:39You won a ton of championships here.
03:41Like...
03:41Maybe that's what it is.
03:42They're defensive guys.
03:43They played with Vrabel.
03:44It's a little more personal than for Tom, although McDaniels is here.
03:48But Tom, on the championship Sunday, went out of his way to praise the Patriots and Vrabel.
03:54Like, it's...
03:55I don't know.
03:56I have no idea.
03:57Now, this will make you feel better.
03:59John Riggins sat down, and he's 76, but he is an excellent storyteller.
04:05It was a great...
04:05A young 76.
04:07Yeah.
04:07It might have been 25 minutes they spent with him.
04:08Go back and listen to the whole thing on the Odyssey app, A-U-D-A-C-Y, or check the podcast
04:12feed for both WEI Afternoons or the Greg Hill Show.
04:15You can find it both places.
04:16But he talked about his interaction with Belichick, Curtis.
04:19So if you want a little cheer-up, here's how John Riggins described the one time he met
04:24Bill.
04:24I'm down on the field there at Giant Stadium, and I'm walking out to see Belichick.
04:28So I said, hey, Bill, John Riggins, how are you doing?
04:31He didn't...
04:32That's Bill.
04:33He was like a cruise ship.
04:34He went right by me.
04:36And I thought, you...
04:38But I got a feeling that ain't the last time he's heard somebody, or the first time he
04:43was called an ass.
04:44I'm here to your right.
04:46Had you heard the Sandra Day O'Connor story from him?
04:49Like, it's...
04:50No.
04:50Greg knew this.
04:51Nobody else on the set knew about it.
04:53I gotta be honest.
04:54I don't really know it.
04:55But there are some articles about it.
04:56So in the 80s, John Riggins was just hammered and was invited to dine with the Supreme Court
05:02Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
05:04And he tells the story here.
05:06This is probably...
05:07I don't know if you've edited this down a little bit, Sean, but it's worth hearing a couple
05:09minutes of it.
05:10It's pretty funny.
05:12Here's Riggins talking about that.
05:14I get there, I go right to the bar, and I say, give me a double scotch.
05:17They gave it to me.
05:18I drag it.
05:18I said...
05:19And then they're calling for dinner.
05:20I said, give me one more.
05:21So I drag it out.
05:22I head to the table.
05:23I sit down.
05:24The sitting governor, Charles Robb, or Chuck Robb,
05:26of Virginia, is sitting on my right.
05:28And then, of course, Sandra Day O'Connor was across the table from her.
05:31Her husband was off to my left.
05:32And other guests of people.
05:34And so now I'm rolling, right?
05:39Because finally I'm like, Bill, good.
05:40Hey, no big deal here.
05:41No pain.
05:42I'm cool.
05:43Okay, yeah, got it.
05:44And so I'm wearing Chuck Robb out, telling him, you know, we got to play football during
05:48a deer season.
05:49Can't you make a special season for us?
05:51You know, after...
05:53That's the kind of s*** I was coming up with.
05:55And, of course, the red wine was in front of me.
05:58So, you know, I drank my double scotch.
06:00I'm drinking the red wine.
06:01And there's like, you know, like there's a big wet spot in front of me.
06:04I'm spilling stuff all over.
06:06And, you know, of course, dinner comes.
06:07And I go, oh, no, I'm good.
06:09I'm good.
06:09I didn't bother eating dinner.
06:10So before the...
06:12I'd been told, we'd been told that Jess O'Connor was going to leave before the event ended
06:17because she had a prior engagement.
06:18So it came that time for her to leave.
06:20And, of course, that's, you know, when I bellered out, oh, loosen up, Sandy, baby.
06:26You're too tight.
06:27It was like, you know, I was trying to say, stick around.
06:30Come on.
06:30We're going to have a great time.
06:32And then, like a giant oak tree, I went, boom.
06:39And you fell right.
06:40You passed out right there.
06:41I passed out on the floor.
06:43And, you know, you would have needed a wrecker to come in and get me out of there.
06:48Bring back memory.
06:49That's like my whole...
06:50That was the last time I was in Phoenix for a Super Bowl.
06:53Unbelievable.
06:54Just so unbelievable.
06:56Pretty cool.
06:56Really great knowledge by Greg.
06:59And to get that story.
07:00Awesome.
07:02Did Wiggy explain who he thought Sandra Day O'Connor was?
07:05He didn't.
07:05It was late in the interview, so they were just kind of letting him go.
07:08But he stayed bonus time.
07:09It was definitely worth the wait.
07:12Mike Mayock stopped in and talked about our old friend Antonio Brown.
07:15Of course, they crossed paths in...
07:17Was it Vegas then?
07:18I think that might have been the last good season of Hard Knocks.
07:22Was that summer when they had the frozen foot and all that.
07:24So good.
07:25Well, he talked about that.
07:26So Greg asked him how he survived the Antonio Brown era.
07:28Here's what Mayock said.
07:29So let's put this in perspective.
07:33Not only did he show up right after signing a contract with his Spitsburg Steelers helmet,
07:37wanting us to paint it because it was an illegal helmet.
07:42And he wouldn't wear any of the 34 certified and approved helmets.
07:46But we got to training camp and he showed up in a hot air balloon with both feet burnt from a cryogenic chamber in Paris, France.
07:55Yes.
07:56Yeah.
07:56And I'm a year one general manager with the whatchamacallit show.
08:04What's the NFL film show?
08:05They were embedded in there.
08:07Hard Knocks?
08:07Hard Knocks.
08:08Yeah, we got Hard Knocks there.
08:09Oh, they were there.
08:10Yeah, it was freaking awesome.
08:11It was...
08:12Well, you made it.
08:15That's a classic one.
08:15You survived.
08:17Now, Curtis, you remember we put the poll up about Antonio Brown.
08:19Two Patriots fans.
08:20One, Antonio Brown.
08:21Before he was picked up.
08:23After he was picked up.
08:24I've never seen a dramatic turn for not rooting for a guy, rooting for a guy.
08:28Then he gets cut.
08:30People are outraged.
08:32Is he currently in prison, by the way?
08:33Where is it?
08:33No, he's not because he's tweeting.
08:35The devil will try to bring you down when you get closer to your goals.
08:38But the thing that not prognosticators, media members, or the crafts, if you ask Edelman or Brady, maybe, I don't know, Brady, but guys on that team,
08:50they thought they were going to go back-to-back with Antonio Brown on that 2019 team.
08:56Like, you remember that week one, they killed the Steelers on Sunday night football of week one of the 2019 season where they raised their sixth banner.
09:05Then that was the weekend they brought in A.B., but he didn't play, and the Patriots still killed the Steelers.
09:11Then the next Sunday was in Miami in September, which is always kind of like the house of horrors for the Patriots, and they destroyed the Dolphins.
09:18It was like 56 to 10 or something, and then they released Antonio Brown, and it was a slow, methodical prod.
09:26Do they win if they don't?
09:28I just, I don't know.
09:29I mean, that's what the players think.
09:30He was losing it, though, at that point.
09:32But he won a Super Bowl with the Bucs.
09:34Yeah, that is true.
09:35That is true.
09:36And then the whole Giselle thing going on, where he was staying at Brady's house.
09:39In Tampa, yeah.
09:39Do you think Brady regrets that whole period, though?
09:42I think he probably was happy he was there.
09:43At least it wasn't the jujitsu guy.
09:45Yeah, that's fair.
09:45Oh, geez.
09:47Marshall Falk sat down.
09:48Now, Wiggy, I'm sure, got Marshall in part because he's coaching his kids at Southern University, which they talked a lot about that.
09:54Pretty good stuff from Marshall, actually, about coaching and the role model for young men and all that.
10:01Eventually, though, Ted wanted him, Ted Johnson on set, wanted him to basically reminisce about the 0-1 Super Bowl.
10:07The guys have Kurt Warner on today.
10:08I'm sure they'll do some of that.
10:09And, Curtis, we've seen this in the past.
10:11He gets, Marshall gets kind of heated about that Super Bowl.
10:13Oh, every year.
10:14This one, he didn't get so heated, but he just refused to second-guess anything from Mike Martz.
10:19Here was a little bit of that exchange.
10:20The only thing I wish is that we had won.
10:22Okay.
10:22All right.
10:22I'm being honest.
10:23All right.
10:24Because I could literally say, just think about it.
10:27When Tom got the ball back, y'all just wanted to run the clock out.
10:30He throws a swing route, and we miss a tackle.
10:33Yeah.
10:33And Redman gets 30 yards.
10:35Right.
10:35Like, if you just push him out of bounds, we go into overtime.
10:39So, but if you live in that world, you know what I'm saying?
10:41That's fair.
10:41That's a very unpleasant place.
10:42I respect that.
10:43I respect that.
10:43That's a very unpleasant place.
10:44Right.
10:44I wish, the only thing I wish that we had won, because it's not like our passing game wasn't good.
10:50Like, we were really good at passing the ball.
10:52That's fair.
10:52And if Mike wanted to call passes, the beauty of our team was, in reality, nobody never showed up on a Monday bitching about what happened on Sunday.
11:00Nobody.
11:01Yeah.
11:01If we ran the ball, if we threw it, like, I never said, give me the ball.
11:07So, that is a misrepresentation of the drive against the Rams.
11:11They got a first down on a swing pass.
11:15The first play was a swing pass to Redman.
11:16He got, like, six yards.
11:17The play that was the chunk play was over the middle of Detroit Brown, that they got to, like, the plus 40 right before they threw it to Wiggy.
11:25And one of the cool things in that, they do in NFL films on this, where the Rams got home on Brady on this blitz earlier in the game.
11:31And on the final drive, right before they gave it to Wiggy, they had the exact same blitz.
11:38Brady acknowledged, felt it immediately, threw the ball away, and then they end up winning the game.
11:43So, pretty cool.
11:45And one more for you here.
11:46Gronk stopped by.
11:47Pretty cool to have him, Ben Watson, and Wiggy.
11:49Three best tight ends in Patriots history.
11:51One, boom, bing, bang, boom.
11:52Greg was joking later in the show that it looked like the progress of Neanderthals, like the human, through time.
11:58Because it was like, you had Gronk, who's still an unbelievable specimen, Ben Watson, and then Wiggy was kind of, he was just kind of dressed shabbily over there.
12:05He still ate one meal a day.
12:06But Gronk talked about Belichick getting snubbed from the Hall of Fame.
12:09And here's what Rob said.
12:11Surprised?
12:11Surprised about Bill in the Hall of Fame?
12:13I'm definitely surprised.
12:14I mean, 100%.
12:15He got snubbed.
12:16And there's literally, there's going to be no such thing as a first ballot Hall of Famer coach.
12:20And there's a guy out there that deserves it as well.
12:22Look at Andy Reid, what he did in Philadelphia and Kansas City.
12:25Well, he should be a first ballot as well when all things are said and done for Andy Reid.
12:29But how can you put him in the Hall of Fame now as a first ballot?
12:33So, this snub by Coach Belichick, you know, is raising the question of, is anyone a first ballot Hall of Fame coach?
12:39I mean, the guy has eight Super Bowl rings and his resume is just through the roof.
12:43And he's given so many opportunities to so many players, like us three.
12:46We had opportunities because of Coach Belichick.
12:48And he gave every player a fair opportunity as well.
12:51It was, hey, if you're an undrafted guy or, you know, if you're drafted, it doesn't matter.
12:55Everyone's going to still have the same, you know, fair shot to get that starting position.
12:59I don't think most people, though, understand the voting.
13:02The Hall of Fame voting is confusing.
13:04And most people, I don't think, dig that deep to understand.
13:08It's not just that Bill wasn't voted a first ballot Hall of Famer.
13:11It is also an effed up system where he's pitted in a class of five against senior players.
13:17It's not an effed up system.
13:17When you look at who he was pitted up against, it doesn't matter.
13:21Anybody with a functioning brain would not vote in any other way but Brady, I mean, by Kraft and Belichick getting in.
13:26Yeah, but why would you put what does Kraft and Bill have to do with Roger Craig?
13:31Like, you shouldn't have that class of five separate from the modern players and only be able to pick three of them.
13:35But would anybody in an impartial way be able to look at those three and say Craig over Belichick and Kraft as it pertains to the NFL?
13:43You don't even need to pick three.
13:45You could pick two on that list.
13:46You pick two.
13:47Those two deserve it more than everybody else, in my opinion.
13:50The improperly conducted votes or polls or Halls of Fame that have these guidelines, those impact the fringe player, the fringe coach.
14:00Like, Belichick and Kraft would be in any other – put them in any group of any time in the history of the NFL, they'd be in.
14:08It's not that the selection is muddied because the people want to get other guys in because they feel bad it's their last chance.
14:15That's not what they're doing.
14:16The Hall of Fame is asking them to pick the most qualified, and there's no world that they would not be the most qualified.
14:23Tonight, Vinatieri, yes?
14:25Hmm?
14:26Vinatieri.
14:27Nope, not getting in?
14:27Is that tonight or this weekend?
14:29Thursday, tonight.
14:30Yeah, it's tonight at the NFL Honors.
14:32If he gets in, does that make it all right again?
14:33One of the lowest points in the history of Boston sports were fans booing Vinatieri when he came back with the Colts.
14:38And by the way, the chunk play that he was talking about was 11 yards.
14:42There was no big chunk play.
14:43The chunk play was to Troy Brown over the middle for 23 yards.
14:46Nice job, Curtis.
14:47Good memory.
14:48It's insane.
14:49I can't remember what I said as my lead yesterday.
14:53Never mind.
14:53But they had the coolest video of that on social media.
14:55I don't know if you saw that.
14:56It was like field level, final drive, Patriots, Rams.
14:59It was just unbelievable vantage point to see.
15:03That was history right there.
15:05Yeah.
15:06Hill Notes coming up.
15:07Also, Curtis and I on Saturday, we don't have many benchmarks on the Saturday show, but we do.
15:10Most to gain, most to lose, or what if they win, what if they lose, that sort of thing.
15:15Right.
15:15Do you want to trot that back out on a Thursday?
15:17And you ask me if Greg is showing signs of dementia.
15:19And what do you say?
15:21I say no.
15:22No, it looks great.
15:23It looks flawless.
15:24Yep.
15:24You're welcome.
