00:00What's up my beautiful black people!
00:08Afropunk-tober, you should stand up right about now!
00:13This is the second Afropunk in Johannesburg.
00:16What actually got me about Afropunk is for black people,
00:19it's by black people, but also so inclusive
00:22and just owning ourselves, whether it's in expression,
00:25whether it's in music, and just in identity.
00:30A positive body image is just that, because just own it.
00:39It's yours, own it and celebrate it,
00:41and you don't need anyone to celebrate it before you,
00:43it'll just jump on the wagon.
00:52We are Adiyambo Ndumba.
00:54Adiyambo Ndumba, which is a combination of names.
00:57He's Adiyambo Ndumba, right?
01:00So that's why, that's where the name comes from, yeah.
01:03My personal style is breaking barriers,
01:06being yourself, feeling comfortable in your skin,
01:08and Afropunk is a perfect platform to show that,
01:12because some of us have corporate jobs,
01:14and you can really wear crazy stuff.
01:18I went to New York, and I discovered this thing called Afropunk,
01:21and I said to myself,
01:23this is the space where Nomi Superstar performed.
01:38I went to New York and I discovered this thing called Afropunk and I said to myself this
01:48is the space where Nomi Superstar performed and six years later I'm here.
01:53I loved and lived in each and every single second of the 30 minutes I was on stage.
02:03The music that I make has a very self empowering message behind it which is what I'm trying
02:07to promote.
02:08I look at these kids and I can see they lack confidence, they speak down, you know they
02:13don't speak with their chest up and for me like I realized that if they're following
02:17my music so deeply then I can change that with my music.
02:37I'm your neighbor, I'm a regular guy, I'm just dude down the street you know I'm Timber,
02:54I'm Spiso, I'm Michael, I'm Josh, I'm just the guy that loved doing this music thing and people
03:04decided that it was a thing worth following.
03:07Now I guess that's it.
03:11See you tomorrow.
