00:00It is time to raise a glass to the pearl of the Caribbean with L.S. Cream.
00:07This is the feature on this week's Shop Essence Live in partnership with the New Voices family.
00:12I am your host, Noni Donovan, and this is where we bring you new Black-owned brands to shop.
00:17We have been here since 2020 giving you incredible products, incredible stories,
00:23all Essence approved in partnership with the New Voices family.
00:26I want everybody to welcome Miriam Jean-Baptiste.
00:31She is co-founder, co-founder, co-founder of L.S. Cream Liqueur.
00:39You try to have me say it in French, but we're going to work on it.
00:44But I am so excited to try this.
00:48I am one of the few people in my family that really love like the creamy liquor.
00:54I love eggnog when the holidays comes around.
00:57So I was really, really excited to have you on this week's show.
01:01So before we get into the show and tell them the live taste test,
01:04tell us how you came up with this brand, L.S. Cream.
01:09Absolutely.
01:09Well, first of all, thank you so much, Stephanie, for having me.
01:12So L.S. is actually inspired by a traditional recipe that we call cremas in Haiti.
01:18So I'm of Haitian descent, along with my husband, also, who's Haitian.
01:21And we both grew up with this amazing recipe that's part of every celebration,
01:30whether it is for baptism, communions, parties.
01:34There's always a bottle of homemade cremas on the table.
01:38And one Christmas, we were actually at my family house and we saw like a family member
01:43gift a beautiful bottle of cremas, of homemade cremas.
01:46And my husband and I, we looked at ourselves and we were like, how come we're not able
01:51to get this on the shelf?
01:53Why do we always have to wait for our aunties or our mothers or, you know, the family to
01:57make it?
01:58So we said, you know what, let's dive into it.
02:01So we both decided to dive into this beautiful journey and come up with something that we could
02:09share with everyone that could be on the shelf right next to the different cream liqueurs
02:14that we know about, and that's also Black-owned.
02:18Love, love, love it.
02:19Okay.
02:20So now we are getting into the taste test.
02:25Oh, my job is so hard, but it's 5 p.m. somewhere.
02:29So here we are.
02:29And I have to do it with you, too.
02:31I mean, we're sharing, right?
02:32Okay.
02:33So we're going to.
02:34So if you can talk about, for anybody that doesn't know the tradition of cremas and what's
02:42in it, can you talk about your ingredients?
02:43Yeah, of course.
02:45So like I said, every family has their own recipe of cremas.
02:49So we actually took my husband's grandmother's recipe that she had left like in a little
02:54Ziploc bag that the family was passing around.
02:57So you'll actually taste notes of cinnamon, coconut, vanilla, nutmeg, and it's mixed with
03:04pure grain alcohol.
03:05So usually cream liqueurs are more like rum-based or whiskey-based, but we decided to take a pure
03:12green alcohol so that it's very versatile and you could also mix it with different spirits.
03:18So that's really what you taste.
03:19It's low in lactose.
03:21So for anybody that's a little.
03:22I wasn't going to say on here, but I'm just like for us that, you know, the cream liqueur
03:29could be a little dangerous, but you're saying.
03:31So no worries.
03:32We thought about our people.
03:33So low in lactose, it's gluten-free and it's made with all natural ingredients and you don't
03:39have to refrigerate it.
03:40Even once you open the bottle, you can leave it out on the shelf.
03:43It won't spoil.
03:44It won't like turn.
03:46It's really a product of quality.
03:49This is just, and this is what we love to bring you guys at Shop S&S Live in partnership
03:54with the New Voices family is products that are so intentional for us.
03:59Like talk about made for us by us.
04:01So many of us are lactose intolerant.
04:03Absolutely.
04:04Gluten sensitivities.
04:06And this is great.
04:07And you even thought about the storage of it, which is amazing.
04:11And yeah, I get into the taste.
04:13So yeah, it is so delicious.
04:18And then can you just talk about the, like, I probably poured too much.
04:22I don't, can you talk about the alcohol level of it?
04:27Like how much it says?
04:29Yeah.
04:3017%.
04:31So it's 17%.
04:32So it will creep up on you if you're just like sipping it.
04:36But the good thing is that you could actually mix it.
04:38You could, you know, a little drop in your coffee on Sunday morning.
04:42You could do espresso martinis.
04:44You could do a creamy old-fashioned.
04:46We have a bunch of recipes on a website that you could inspire yourself from.
04:51People bake with it.
04:52They do like French toast recipes in the French toast batter or just like simply on the rocks.
05:00It's also very delicious.
05:01Oh, my goodness.
05:03This is like eggnog too.
05:07Yes.
05:08This is so delicious.
05:10And yes, I can absolutely see putting it in like your chai latte or your coffee.
05:18I can see the French toast too.
05:22You guys, you've got to go to their website.
05:24I have it below on the little ticker.
05:26Go to their website.

05:39So many times I'm like going to a party or going somewhere.
05:42It's like, oh, what do I bring?
05:44Like this right here would make for such an amazing gift as well as having in your own, you know, little liquor cabinet.
05:50Yeah, of course.
05:51And, you know, you could actually purchase this either on our website.
05:55You go directly to the website.

06:17So this is in partnership with the New Voices family.
06:20If you could talk a little bit about what it's been like for you to be a part of such an incredible community for the people.
06:27Absolutely.
06:28I mean, the New Voices family, we needed this in our community, especially in the entrepreneur community.
06:35It's, it's, I don't even have the words to say how needed it is to have this type of environment, be able to exchange with different entrepreneurs that are having either the same journey as you or having different things.
06:51The level of commitment from everybody that's in, that's part of this, of this team is amazing.
06:57So we, we had an amazing time, my husband and I being part of this program.
07:03So good.

07:30Miriam.
07:31Okay.

07:44Cremas is just, you guys have to check this out.
07:47Check out the recipes for sure.
07:49It is such a beautiful way to unwind.
07:51Low in lactose, gluten-free, and you can store it anywhere, even after it's open.
07:58So great.
08:00And connecting to Haitian heritage as well and continuing on with tradition is so, so dope.
08:07Is there anything else you have coming up or any other products that you want to talk about?
08:11I can't really talk about the new products, but we have some things in the works that we're working on just to be like, again, we want just to give an alternative to people that enjoy cream liqueurs, want to know more about cream liqueurs.
08:25So there's certain things that are coming up that we're excited about.
08:30So it sounds like a part two, Miriam.
