00:25if they do a good job i'm kind of like i don't know if this is someone i want to be on set
00:29with you know um so that's definitely you know i think part of a do and i also think don't um don't
00:35hold back right like don't think okay you know i'm gonna do this version but then when i get that
00:41call back i'm gonna really show them but okay what if you don't get the call back or you pitch and
00:45you're like i don't you know i don't really care about this project so i'm just gonna kind of pitch
00:50it halfway because i've i've pitched things where you know i didn't i wasn't like in love with the
00:55project but then that executive remembered me for another project or moved to another company
01:01so always give it you know don't don't half-ass it i guess is the way to say it great how about you
01:07lena um i mean to say be authentic is like it may seem kind of vague but i think the biggest thing
01:15is just to be such a unique individual that you know we are auditioning because that's the thing
01:23about audition i think when you said like oh we would talk about casting i'm like it's such a
01:26weird thing to talk about because it's such a guttural experience like there's literally nothing
01:30a person can do other you can commit yourself to your craft you can you know do theater work you can
01:35build your community you know with other actors but like it's so funny because i just saw jody
01:41turner smith yesterday at the essence black women in hollywood event it was her first time being
01:46there and obviously a full circle moment because i'm super proud of her everything she's done
01:51since queen and slim um on netflix right now yeah uh yay and then she's also got a show she was
01:57asking have you seen my show yet um that's on paramount plus like i haven't seen it yet but i'm
02:01about to watch out here it's good things but my thing is i'm just like i don't man i don't care if
02:05you i don't know what i'm like the fact that you're still working is really an honor for me because
02:11it when i'm casting somebody yes for that part in that role and she was right and shout out to
02:16karmic cuba jody was in the first batch first batch where it was like oh damn okay there she go
02:22and it was like do we need to see anyone else and we kept seeing people we just measured them
02:27to her and the thing was it was just we were measuring this her her magic there was something
02:34special about her that was like what what is this and then obviously with chemistry reading she don't
02:38we can't teach that when daniel reads with her for the first time it's like yep there it is there
02:43they are okay got it so that's what i mean it's guttural it's godly it's not like so somebody that
02:48didn't get it i see the actresses who came in and read for that part i'm not going to say their names
02:51but like when i see them out there's a love and affection because they're like yep i didn't get it
02:56but i was close and i'm grateful you having me in a room and it was cool and i'm still working
