00:00everybody wants to believe that we'd be able to swim in that part of the river you know that just
00:12because you have money you're not better than me and just because i don't have money doesn't mean
00:18i deserve your disdain and is the cross generational the it's you know you're used to
00:26seeing these things with different races you know you're used to seeing these things
00:31with outsiders but to be an outsider in your own family is just an interesting timeless concept to
00:40watch many shows you see try to do l.a just don't do it right you know uh tell me about you know
00:52because it's almost like a love letter to los angeles when you guys did uh this season
00:56talking about shooting l.a showing l.a in all its parts
01:02i always say like l.a the light hits differently here you know you know what i mean like a sunny
01:07day in l.a is not a sunny day in milwaukee in new york it's like a very special tone to the
01:13to the natural light here and so you know we had early conversations with the cinematographer
01:18um andy you know andy straighthorn of just like let's really lean into using natural light and
01:23using hot light you know this is all about heat it's a very sexy season and so you know we want
01:28to use the instruments our filmmaking instruments to really tell that story visually and so you're
01:32feeling more saturation and more heat in the image why is it important tell me about tackling those team
01:37uh those those themes you know uh with this show yeah i think it's just important i wouldn't even say
01:43it's taboo but just the reality of life and life is life in this season for the banks family and
01:49everybody has their characters their storylines that they tap into i think specifically um uncle phil
01:55and aunt viv being the rocks of this family um and being trying to be there for everybody else but
02:00realizing they haven't been there for themselves in their marriage and just sort of seeing the realities
02:06of what it's like to um be in a marriage for so long so i think it's really just tapping into the
02:12reality of life um and not being scared to to go there and tell the story yeah we've got some
02:18surprises along the way this year can you talk about some of some of the folks you're bringing
02:23on this year that people are going to be excited about oh our chest well you want ogg yeah ogg shows up
02:33yeah joseph joseph marcel is uh making an appearance this season and it's just beautiful it is
02:41so much fun you know i think uh this this time in the world this kind of nostalgia is just delicious
02:55it is so beautiful to feel the the merging of these two television worlds you know it is it is so much fun
03:07fun to watch well i don't mean to put this on you and no disrespect you fell there that's plus years
03:14ago i'm done it's like you know just kind of taking stepping back and watching this kind of
03:21flow through here or watching kind of your life here a little bit you know the the beautiful thing um
03:28in watching it and you know for for us as a as a cast is to see a lot of the seeds that we planted you
03:40know take root and flower beyond our wildest dreams you know it was actually 34 years ago when the fresh
03:50prince of bel air premiered you know so to have the the seeds of those concepts and those ideas and those
03:59characters that we created um be delivered to another generation with this level of care and beauty you
04:10know is it is uh a deep honor yeah but you i think you and jabari were about the same age when you
04:20started when you started bel-air when you started crush pinch huh jabari wasn't born when we started
04:25oh no no no no yes but i mean now when you started about the same age when you obviously going in what
04:35was it about him that you knew that this is the kid that's gonna take on this role when i found out
04:42that jabari was from west philly i was like you are kidding me you are kidding he i don't need to meet
04:48him he has the job right yeah it's it's amazing man it's um you know when when things are just um
04:59in the great river and there's just it they're they're just flowing they're going they're they're
05:05happening all the people that had to say yes for us to even be able to do this and you know real
05:13testament to the the power of uh morgan's vision you know that literally every person all the way
05:22down the line was like whoa you know quincy benny cast all producers it's like everybody felt how
05:32special this could be that's special why do you think bel-air has just resonated with within the
05:38block you leaving so much yeah i think it goes back to what will said about care and the love
05:44we put in the material like we really love these stories that we tell and we love this cast we love
05:50this crew and so i think i think that just finds its way into the art naturally it could be on a
05:55subconscious level of just like oh wow i'm watching something that feels handmade you know so i think
06:00that's that's been our approach this day one is like how can we make this feel handmade
06:04um how can we create something that subverts expectations um while also being a salve in this
06:11world like we live in such a crazy world that you know i always tell you know i tell my father i'm like
06:16to be a part of making something that gets people through another week that's a blessing you know you
06:21know i did say that one more question how do you go in to a show like this and make it tights where you
06:29don't because there's something like you said there's so many things going on in this world and
06:33is pop culture moments at times sometimes maybe political and you but you do make it timeless and
06:39then still resonate with people at 5 10 people 20 years or now i need a question i just want to do
06:45that i know i think there's really a fundamental human idea at the at the core of the fresh prince of
06:55bel arab you know that you know we talk about nature or nurture you know and you take a kid who
07:04you know has none of the financial or educational resources that his family has on the west coast he
07:16has none of them what happens if you pick him up and you put him into that fish out of water
07:24water circumstance and it's such wish fulfillment
