00:00What's up, Essence family?
00:02It's your girl, Tamisha.
00:03I am here at Beauty Carnival at Essence Festival of Culture.
00:07And you are checking out Street Style Beauty Edition.
00:10Our style is totally different from anything I have
00:14or any culture I have ever seen.
00:17And we definitely stand out in the crowd.
00:20So, honey, we have to serve.
00:22When you look good, you feel good.
00:24Beauty to me means empowerment.
00:26It's embracing for who you truly are.
00:28I just expect to see a lot of representation,
00:31a lot of people like, you know, that look like me.
00:35And just to see people bold, beautiful,
00:37and just, you know, being themselves.
00:40I like to be comfortable.
00:42I like to be easy breezy, but also have a chic look.
00:46I am enjoying Essence.
00:47It's always a nice vibe for the culture.
00:49I enjoy being around other Black beautiful women.
00:52So absolutely, I enjoy it.
00:53It's about the inside and outside.
00:56You know, for me, if I get dressed up, my skin's blowing,
01:01that's confidence for me.
01:02So I love that part of it.
01:04Beauty is so closely related to survival,
01:06and I think that exists outside of just Black men.
01:09I actually no longer think about how others perceive me.
01:13It's really like, what do I need to survive the day?
01:15Beauty to me means showing up with perseverance,
01:18showing up, saying that we belong here.
01:21We are made to be here.
01:22We are worth it.
01:23Being here at Essence is amazing.
01:25This is my first time in New Orleans.
01:28I'm from Detroit, Michigan.
01:29And to come out here and to see New Orleans recover
01:32and host an Essence, it's like gold.
01:35Seeing Black beautiful people embrace their style,
01:38their hair, their beauty, it's amazing.
01:41It's an amazing feeling.
01:42Y'all, did you see all those looks today?
01:44The ladies were stepping in and their best looks,
01:46their best beauty, and the guys were killing it.
01:50You saw it here first at the Essence Festival of Culture,
01:53and you were watching Essence Street Style,
01:55powered by Target.
