00:00We know how much just representation and seeing, you know, someone who looks like you is.
00:04Can you talk about working with Jessica Gibson on the illustration?
00:08Yeah. So, Jessica Gibson.
00:09And also, I want to give love to Janae Wood-Brown, who also helped us with writing the book as well.
00:15We collaborated with her.
00:17And Jessica Gibson, she had great vision.
00:19Like, we literally didn't have to send many notes in our passes.
00:23You know, she literally understood the vision of what we wanted to do from the start.
00:27And as we would send our passes over and, you know, she was sent back, it literally was a matter of, like, one to be here.
00:33Or just make the puffs a little bigger, you know, or, like, make sure we make the skirt like this.
00:37Like, there were those little details like that.
00:39Or, like, Russ would be like, make sure the afro is, like, you know, it's like, make sure the curls are, like, right.
00:43You know, so there were those little details that we would do.
00:46And literally, she was able to make it, paint the picture so beautifully and exactly how we envisioned it.
00:52And the great thing about this book, as you talk about, is, yes, for kids like our kids to see representation of themselves.
00:58But then also in the book, everyone will see representation of themselves, right?
01:02You know, I mean, and that was really important to us because we want for every child to feel included.
01:07We want for every child to feel like they're thought of.
01:09We want for every child to feel inspired the same way that we did.
01:12And to know that why not you attitude is real, like, why not you, right?
01:17And if you see yourself, if you see representation of yourself, I think it speaks to you a little deeper, you know,
01:21than just, like, a picture of one vision of one person or a type of person, right?
01:26So it was just amazing working with Janae and working with Jessica to bring our vision to life.
01:33Yeah, I remember seeing it.
01:34There was, like, a boy in a wheelchair.
01:35And I was like, that's so important, you know, to see that often, you know, seeing that.
01:40Absolutely.
01:41Absolutely. That's what I love that you call that out because that was an important detail for us to have things like that in the book.
