00:46well just first before we kick off any questions from your fans so fans if you're out there please
00:54make sure you are commenting because brandy will be answering your questions later on but before we
01:00get to all of that brandy how are you because i know we're all dealing with so much but how have
01:05you been sort of dealing with physical distancing i know and i just want to send love and light to
01:10everybody out there i know we're all going through this tough time and you know like everyone else
01:14i'm adjusting and you know following the rules and staying close to my family and just reflecting and
01:21and trying to be the best version of ourselves in this in this time so yeah how are you doing with
01:26it you all right you know i'm okay you know i i live in brooklyn um with my little baby so he's nine
01:35months and listen i'm right there with you um but it got so stressful that we ended up moving
01:43out to maryland and my mom's house okay get further away from people so it's been tough um because a lot of
01:50my friends and family are still back in new york yeah where it's been hard hit but you know we're
01:55getting through it yeah shout out to new york i know they're going through it crazy yeah and i
02:01definitely want to send um anyone who's dealing with covid you know we're recovering and recuperating
02:07and hopefully this conversation will take your mind off of everything just for a few moments
02:11just for just for a little bit music is always healing and i'm happy to be here talking about
02:16music yes how's ray jay doing because you know we love ray jay's good he's always good he's he's he's
02:24adjusting as well you know he has two beautiful babies that i'm so just miss them so much you know
02:30haven't seen him for a minute but yeah he's doing good princess is doing good everybody's good

02:40so we have to talk about this new single baby mama congrats thank you so much i'm so excited about it
02:51i'm just so happy to be back in music i mean it's been so long and this is like my passion so i'm just
02:58i'm blessed to be here right now talking about music nice how did the single this concept sort of
03:05come about you wanting to really champion baby mamas absolutely champion baby mama's motherhood
03:10in general and just that unconditional love that that i feel for my daughter i always wanted to do
03:16uh a song for her and this was a part of it so i just tied the tied the two in you know my my love
03:24for her and just just in this great position to be a example for her and to guide her and support her
03:32in every way so she inspires me in so many ways i can be the best me i can be and really to just
03:39keep my mentality strong and yeah she's great i love that and she's on the single right like we hear
03:47her beautiful vocals on baby world she's doing some of the backgrounds she's uh she's really coming
03:53into her own as a singer as a songwriter and i'm just happy to to be on tracks with her you know we
03:59have a track on the the new album coming out uh called high heels that's amazing and i just look
04:04forward to to seeing her grow into this amazing artist that she's becoming girl you got new album
04:11high heels no i know i'll probably jump the gun by you know letting it be known but i'm just excited
04:17we are too i mean i'm such a huge fan and we've been waiting for this project patiently because you
04:23know we do not want to rush the vocal bible oh no uh yeah it's a long time coming really i i really
04:31wanted this project to be uh just as good as it can be and you know i'm really sensitive about my music
04:37and my art and i just wanted to you know give the fans just what they what they want what they desire
04:44what they deserve and uh it's a very personal album and i'm just looking forward to seeing how how
04:50everybody connects with it nice before we talk a little bit more about the album how did chance
04:56sort of get in the mix i saw you tweet um last year that that was your first time meeting him and so
05:01meeting him last year how did he hop on the track well we actually connected through facetime before
05:07uh before we met in person he wanted to do something with i want to be down my very first single ever
05:13and he wanted to sample some stuff from there so i was like of course i said but you know what
05:19if you do this i'm going to need you for this this up and coming single that i want to put out called
05:24baby mama and you know him being a family guy and you know morals and god fear and everything i just
05:31i thought he would be the perfect uh collaboration and he snapped yeah he did it on this record i was
05:36like yes jim give it all you got buddy and he did that i love it and i love seeing your fans
05:43just sort of react to the single um you're back like you've never left garrett black is saying it
05:50has been worth the wait you always give your best and rachel fenton saying she loves the the single
05:57um so your fans are already just in love with the track but what can we expect from the full project
06:03well like i said it's a very it's a very personal album to me and you know i i go in depth about you
06:11know my experiences with love and just uh my struggles with you know different things in my
06:17life not to get too much away but um it's it's pure it's from the heart and you know i love the music
06:24that i was able to create with you know great producers like dj camper shout out to cadence who
06:31just really helped me find my own you know way of expressing myself as a writer
06:34so i'm just i'm just excited about what people are going to take from it and you know it's a great
06:43time for music right now especially for r&b so yeah it's definitely been healing us and taking our
06:49minds away from us and what i love about this song in particular is that it really is reclaiming that
06:56that title yeah baby mama how has that been um instrumental just in your growth as a mom you
07:02know we all remember uh for some of y'all who are old enough we remember the mtv special
07:09candid about opening up about becoming a mom and how stressful that was for you because you were in
07:15the spotlight and we got help for you um because you just wanted to be yourself and live in your truth
07:21so from that point to now how has it been just really stepping into your own and being like yeah this
07:26is my life being being a mother has been you know the biggest blessing to me because it's just it's
07:32just taught me to uh walk in my own truth and you know be as strong as i possibly can be you know there
07:39are times where i've you know felt like giving up and because i have a daughter because i have someone
07:44that is looking to me to uh be the best version of me i just had to just keep striving and and working
07:53towards my my best and you know the bond that we share is just unbreakable and i just i just love
08:00being her mom and i love the young lady that she's becoming and it just makes me feel like okay i'm doing
08:06something right so i just have to continue to push forward yeah my walk with with being a mother
08:11and we see her dabbling in her art like on social media how is it watching her you know find her own
08:19voice especially as a person who has mastered you've mastered your own voice but just watching
08:24her play with the instrument like how does that make you feel as an artist well it makes me feel
08:29you know so good and i'm so proud of her because you know music is is a blessing it's a beautiful way
08:35to express your your art and your your feelings your emotions and for her to embrace that you know
08:41sometimes you can be afraid of discovering the gifts that god is giving you but she she really has
08:47you know embraced it and she works every day on her music and i have a little studio for her here so
08:53to just see her come into her own is just it's amazing to watch she won't let me you know have
08:59too many opinions about what she's doing right now so i have to like wait my turn to really work with her
09:04and you know because i have all of these ideas i have so many notes i want her to hit and try
09:08for riffs and runs but she's like mom i gotta find my own way so i'm just i'm just in the wings
09:13waiting to walk her around a bit in music yeah i love that and i love the sort of generational
09:19because we know your father was instrumental in helping you absolutely to see that has he been
09:24helping her or is she letting him in at all or not not really even with my dad you know she's just
09:31she's really focused on you know finding her own light and her own sound her own wave you know so i'm
09:37just supporting my dad is supporting everybody's just you know waiting their turn but we all can't
09:42wait to get our hands on her i know that's right is there like a duet in the well i guess you sort
09:47of mentioned ideal so yes we can't love to hear that yeah any other collaborators you don't mind
09:54well i have the you know the daniel caesar song love again that's gonna go on the album and then
09:59just chance and my daughter that's me that's so great because we love when you i mean there's so
10:07many classics that you have and it's just you you don't really need anybody else um so we love i just
10:13can't wait obviously um sorry say that one more time it's coming soon yeah y'all hear that y'all hear
10:23that you know bible thumpers bible thumpers it is coming soon and before i get to uh the fan
10:32questions i have a few more of my own um but you know for creatives like writers myself it's been
10:39super super hard staying creative during this sort of quarantine self-isolating period how have you
10:45maintained just still being creative and still being able to to produce as a singer well honestly
10:52i've been uh mixing mixing the album from from home you know just getting all the references that i
10:58need and you know going back and forth with making sure it sounds right so i've been creative in that
11:04sense and then i just honestly been doing a lot of self-reflection journaling every day and just
11:10getting closer to that to that inner self you know that we all you know work on listen listening to every
11:16day so yeah and uh that's been up and down you know just trying to make sure that you're on point
11:22you know because you can kind of get lazy and bored and all that in this kind of crazy time but
11:29i've been doing the best i can with it yeah are you even anxious to shout out to david duane i see
11:34you he's saying i love you i love brandy yeah hey um and so your name has been brought up a few times
11:42with this versus battle and fans will yes hits on top of hits on top of hits could you see yourself doing
11:52that and if so who would you want to go up against um i really can't see myself doing that i mean i'm
11:58i'm open to it but i mean i i haven't really thought about it yeah you're like the second
12:02person that's mentioned that to me like okay i don't know i don't know huh i have a suggestion
12:10my 90s teen girl dream would love for you to do a friendly competition
12:17monica brandy and monica versus battle you start with the boy is mine and then
12:25yeah that would be kind of weird like who would play you know the boy is mine that would be kind
12:29of yeah start there and then branch off yeah i don't know i don't know to see it so monica if

13:05kobe bryant's daughter she would have turned 14 today and i don't know about you guys who are watching
13:11but i remember you know i was a teenager um and i was introduced to kobe bryant when he went to prom
13:17with you um i was a huge fan of yours and i was like oh who's brandy going to prom with who's this
13:22tall cute guy and i'm like oh cool that's kobe bryant so then he became i became a fan of his just
13:27off the strength of you um just can you talk about the man that he was and and the type of friendship
13:33that you guys um had uh wow uh happy birthday gianna and uh my thoughts and prayers and
13:49go out to vanessa i can't even imagine like what she's going through
13:52and you know kobe's girls and i mean i don't i don't talk about this at all so
14:04you know i just feel like kobe was
14:12unbelievable like he was a champion and um just a sweet soul i just from where i sit and
14:20just from just the pictures and you know things i've seen on him he was a great father a great
14:25husband and just really about you know spreading love and just what he did for his community and
14:34how much of inspiration he is to all of us i mean i just i can't believe what happened to him and i'm
14:39just i'm just lost for words honestly yeah thank you for sharing that because i know it's literally
14:47not easy um but on what would have been her 14th birthday it's just so awesome to remember not only
14:56her life um but just the impact that she's still having around the world yeah so we definitely want
15:04essence family wants to send their thoughts and prayers out to vanessa um and her family who are
15:10we're all still grieving so i know i can't even imagine how it would be um to celebrate your 14
15:15year old but to like a hard transition out of that i'm so yeah if there's any way to do that um tastefully
15:25there's so many fans that have so many questions um and i'm not gonna be selfish and hog it so um let's
15:34see steven prior asks will there be a documentary highlighting the making of this album um no
15:44i'm sorry no um i had um wanted to do a documentary and i i was so you know positive about it but um it
15:55didn't work out and i felt like the documentary would hold up the uh the album and i just don't
16:02feel like i could wait any longer to share music nice uh byron galt um has asked what was the most
16:11interesting part of making the album uh i would have to say the most interesting part was finding my
16:19own words and finding um my own melodies and and having the confidence to uh believe in them you know
16:28because uh it's a different process when you're trying to find find your own sound within yourself
16:34you know because i've been singing so many uh different songs that other people wrote and uh for
16:41such a long time so finding my own way was was very interesting yeah what sort of gave you the
16:48confidence to be like i don't really need anyone to to describe what i'm feeling in the music um because
16:55you've had such amazing collaborations over the years but it's it's sort of lovely to see you come
17:00into your own in the songwriting way thank you i um i was i was blessed to work with you know great
17:07writers that uh that encouraged me to uh find my own way you know and uh i don't want to say i didn't
17:14need anybody because i have a great team of people behind me and uh it's just great to work with people
17:21that want to collab collaborate with you instead of just it's all about their song and you have to
17:26sing their song it's not like that it was it was more um everybody was open to uh different different
17:33ideas and different opinions so i love it before we let you go um tani joy is asking which i love this
17:43question tani um do you have to write at home or in a certain environment uh i mean songs come to me
17:51me wherever i am you know which is which is a good thing i just started here i'll start hearing
17:56melodies you know wherever i am but you know when i get ready to sing a song of course you know i like
18:02to have a a certain a certain environment you know a certain piece you know that that i need to kind of
18:09get those vocals right is it like candles or is it like of course it's candles it's uh you know i gotta
18:16have like my sage and you know lights and you know yeah just to kind of set the vibe set the mood
18:24yes i love that yeah so we got to ship some sage to our house you know clean it up before we create
18:32but brandy thank you so much thank you i'm sorry my spirits just kind of like took a took a turn
18:37no i know i feel so bad i'm like that question but i do appreciate you being just so open um
