Princess Lang, founder of USC's first Majorette Dance Team shares why she created an all-black dance team at her PWI.
Transcript
00:00I'm just here to open up a space for the black women at my PWI.
00:14So once I got into USC, I was like, oh, how am I going to be able to still do Majorette?
00:23And I was like, mom, I want to keep dancing.
00:25But these little dance groups that they have at USC, there are no black girls and that's not how I dance.
00:32And she was like, so what are you going to do?
00:34And I was like, I want to make my own Majorette team, but I don't really know if I can do that.
00:38And she was like, girl, you better make that.
00:40So I was like, you know what, mom, maybe you're right.
00:43You are right.
00:44I think the bigger picture of everything is really just to support black women and uplift black women everywhere, not just at an HBCU.
00:55I appreciate and I applaud everybody that has gone to an HBCU or a PWI.
01:03We deserve to uplift and embrace our culture just as much as anybody else.
01:08We are here to stay and we deserve as much camaraderie as any of these other dance teams at USC and across the country.
