00:14I am the co-owner of Cream Blends and the co-owner of Distinct Life.
00:19Cream Blends is a natural skin care company that we started in 2013.
00:23Our motto is simple skin care made with natural ingredients by real people.
00:28I'm Rick Williams, a co-owner of Distinct Life and Cream Blends.
00:34The Distinct Life is a Detroit-based brand founded in 2010.
00:38We are best known for telling stories through our special projects and collaborations.
00:42Our projects include everything from public murals to designing sneaker collections
00:46with some of the world's top footwear brands.
00:49So I run Cream Blends and Distinct Life with my husband.
00:52We've been together for over 20 years.
00:54We've been in business together for over 20 years.
00:57My grandfather has definitely been the biggest rock in my journey probably.
01:05You know, when I had that defining moment back in 2007, I bought a sneaker shop called Burn Rubber.
01:12But all of that happened because my grandfather was like, when I told him, I went and did all the math,
01:18brought him the books.
01:20And I never thought to ask him for it.
01:22But I just shared with him what I was trying to see if I could raise.
01:27And he was like, oh Rick, I could have gave you half of that.
01:30So when he did that, that meant the world to me.
01:34One, two, three.
01:46We started off small.
01:48We've been bootstrapped for the majority of the way.
01:52So for us, I've learned through making mistakes.
01:55When it comes to the financial health of our business and what we do personally,
02:00we make use of a financial advisor.
02:04We started building at one point and then we plan for the future.
02:08It's about leaving something better than you found it.
02:11My children are going to be better than Rick and I.
02:15That's what we're handing down to our kids.
02:17It's a way of thinking.
02:18It's a way of moving.
02:20It's not a profession.
02:22It's how we are.
02:24So I feel like we're just doing our part of what we're good at, which is, you know, telling stories and amplifying.
