00:00Moving back to the fact that you are indeed a mother of two beautiful Black daughters.
00:04I know there's a lot of considerations with styling, hair, things of that nature.
00:09And of course, even within our community, there's an issue with colorism, things like that, loving your own skin.
00:14What considerations do you feel like you had to take as a mother to help them move through the world as Black women eventually?
00:21Yeah, you know, I try to have consistent conversation so that it doesn't feel like we just talk about things when there's like where there's too much almost importance underlined where they get freaked out.
00:37And so I feel like when there's consistency on how we communicate and how we bring up stuff, I find that with them, it's easier for them to just share and talk about these things.
00:48I'm also looking to them, right?
00:50They need examples.
00:52And so I'm trying to create that, give that to them so that they have examples, so that when they say to me, I don't want to braid my hair.
00:59I want to just go natural for the next like two months.
01:02Then, you know, we can do that.
01:05It means we have to wake up at 4.30 in the morning, though, because they have a bus.
01:09And that's how long it takes to brush your hair out.
01:12But like, that's what we do.
01:14If that's what you guys want to do, then that's what we do.
01:16And we figure out ways to maybe braid you the night before and undo those braids.
01:20And then you have that natural hair.
01:22So it's a constant communication and also room for them to be able to voice what they are interested in.
01:27You know, they're very different.
01:29Both my kids are so, they're their own little individuals.
01:32They have different interests.
01:34They have different styles.
01:35They just have, they're just unique little people.
01:38And so I try to listen.
01:39I try to hear what they're saying to me.
