00:00finally we got to talk about love and hip-hop miami cast member amara la negra in the show's
00:10premiere episode the dominican singer checked music producer checked a music producer who
00:14challenged her for identifying as afro latina now while many love the singer's big beautiful
00:19afro and dark skin some have accused her of donning blackface and pushing her african heritage
00:24a little too hard amara responded with an ig post that read in part it's funny that i even have to
00:30go i even have to go through this to show you baby pictures or videos to prove to blogs and people on
00:36social media that my skin color is not airbrushed airbrushed or a spray tan nor do i take melanin
00:41shots to be black but can you take melanin shots all right we'll get back to that panelists what
00:45are you saying is this a slate or shade in the case of amara la negra let's start with you jamal
00:51uh i think slade oh yeah tell me your panels i'm sorry we're changing formats yeah we did we did
00:57starting over starting over um i think slade i think we always find issue with it if they're
01:03afro latina but they don't identify as the afro part of that we take issue with it and then when
01:08they do identify with the afro part of it we take issue with it as well there's no way to please
01:11everybody at once somebody's always going to take issue um if the black face isn't blatant or it
01:18doesn't exist at all but like she's not like putting shoe polish on her face i it's not that
01:22big a deal i think it's a much ado about nothing and you know she responded beautifully lauren i think
01:29we as a people like to think that we're all a monolith and we love to always want to exclude one group
01:36and celebrate another and i think that amara bringing this conversation to the forefront is very
01:42important because like you said if we have someone who is afro latina they claim the latina but they
01:47ignore the afro or they pride themselves on the afro and aren't too happy about the latina and so i think
01:53that her delivery may be a little off but her pride is there and it's evident and we saw in her baby
02:01pictures and everything all of the conversation that people are having she's giving you all the
02:06receipts to prove that she has done nothing wrong um she is presenting herself as she is and i think
02:13that we should be proud of her for having this conversation and also standing in her truth
02:18all right yeah i like her i like amara i started following her on instagram myself you know like i'm
02:24like there's something about her that is very positive and and like i i didn't follow her but i did
02:28like stalk her posts for a second because i was like okay let me find out more about this girl because
02:33love and hip-hop doesn't show everything and she's like very positive and like you know talks about
02:37god and like faith and like love what why do we have to tear her down like she's beautiful i don't
02:42think like if you look at this picture right here she don't have no makeup on her boobies so like
02:46that's her actual skin color what else do you want from her you know she's just this beautiful woman
02:51trying to make it in the industry so let's let her live how about in all 2018 we just let everyone
02:56live um because we talk about stupid things when donald trump is like tweeting that we're about to like
03:02blow up north korea it's really not cool so we need diversion kayla what are your thoughts about
03:09this well luckily everyone is in support of amara so beatrice andrew says the woman is black and
03:14that's the way i see her robin brown says i never knew people didn't know afro latino was a thing
03:18where are these people been back on twitter at yancey fenty we haven't had an afro latino go
03:23mainstream since salia cruz i hope she makes it big she's so talented at opening doors to show
03:27the uneducated and racist that latinas come in all shades um we have one more from tiara i'm proud of
03:33amara la negra she's strong and a beautiful afro latina that knows her worth refuses to conform to
03:38afrocentric standards of beauty but kayla i want to know your personal thoughts because you are also
03:43afro latina yes i am um and i was just blown away that this latino producer demanded an explanation
03:50about what afro latina even meant so there's just too many layers to really get into the racism within
03:55the latino community so i think i'm here for amara we need her now more than ever there's a little
04:00girl just like her just like me looking up to her and looking for faces looking for someone who looks
04:04like her so i'm here for her 100 percent
