Transcript
00:00Welcome to this Essence discussion on Black Panther, one of the greatest movies of all time.
00:09Of all time.
00:09Facts.
00:10Take me to Wakanda right now.
00:12I want to go.
00:13Tonight.
00:13I wish.
00:14There's so much to unpack in this movie.
00:16It was incredible.
00:17It was so good.
00:17There's too much to unpack, I feel like, but we'll get through it.
00:20We'll do it.
00:21Where should we start?
00:22We got to start with favorite characters or scenes.
00:24Okay.
00:25Okay.
00:25Okay.
00:25My favorite character is definitely Okoye.
00:29She is beautiful as the leader of the Dora Milaje, and I am obsessed with her badassness,
00:35her ownership of her femininity, and just her entire loyalty and existence.
00:41It's, ah, it was amazing.
00:44I think my favorite character is Shuri, just because she's super smart, which I wish I was
00:49a little smarter and more of a tech genius, but she's witty, and I feel like I'm pretty
00:53quick with the wit, so.
00:55I just, like, I love, first of all, don't scare me colonizers.
00:59I just think, like, for kids to see somebody who is young and is so excited about tech and
01:07engineering and, like, is using all these heavy words and knows what she's doing, I just,
01:13I think that's what people love about her character.
01:15She's so excited about math and science and STEM, and I think.
01:20And imagine what this is going to do for this STEM community, for little black girls or girls
01:26of whatever color.
01:28Forget Belle, forget Cinderella, like, that is a princess.
01:31The scene in which the Black Panther dies and is almost, is about to be revived, and
01:38his mother, who's played by Angela Bassett, pours life back into him, it is, like, the
01:43most beautiful scene I think I've ever seen.
01:45And how important it was to see him surrounded by black women in that moment, his little sister,
01:50his mother, and his, his love, Nakia.
01:53You think about our role as black women, right?
01:56We, we, I mean, as women in general, we give life.
01:59And then as black women, we're also always seen as the backbone of our community.
02:04And we, you know, endure all of this trauma.
02:08And it was such a beautiful representation of, of who we are and what we go through that,
02:13yet again, was probably done with intention, but was so important for us to see.
02:18It was amazing.
02:19I don't know, guys.
02:19I don't know what's going to top it.
02:20I guess Black Panther 2 is the only thing that can, that's going to top it.
02:23I guess Black Panther 2 is the only thing that can, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it, that's going to top it
