Lanny Smith, founder of the Black-owned athleisure wear brand Actively Black, discusses how the designs pay homage to the Marvel Film.
Transcript
00:00Built in some of the design, we've got things that pay homage to, you know, the vibranium that we were introduced to with Black Panther.
00:07The tagline for Actively Black is there's greatness in our DNA.
00:10And so when I think about vibranium and what that means, you know, this special thing that the Wakandans had that the rest of the world may not even know about.
00:18That's how I feel about us as a people, as a culture.
00:21We have this greatness inside that's in our DNA.
00:23And even if the rest of the world doesn't know about it, it's time for us to know it, to accept it, to receive it, and start acting in that greatness that's in our DNA.
00:32So there's so many different details across the line that just pay homage to that.
00:37Marvel and Disney gave me the freedom to really do this how I wanted to do this, you know what I mean?
00:43So I have to give them their props because we've dealt with some other corporations that wanted us to tone down how Black we were.
00:52And so I had to turn those deals down.
00:56And we're not going to be ashamed.
00:58We're not going to be, we're not going to minimize who we are.
01:02And the fact that Marvel and Disney allowed me to just create freely to show that is something that I'm very appreciative of.
01:07And I'll look forward to you.
01:19We're not going to be but we're not going to be able to protect ourselves.
01:21We're not going to be việc bako bin.
01:26We're not going to be able to protect ourselves.
01:28We're not going to make ourselves by ourselves.
01:30Then we're going to be busy.
01:31We're not going to be people who are not going to do this know that we are too late.
