00:00but we got to talk about this style that you have first of all i'm obsessed with you as an actress
00:07your work is phenomenal but your style like on a whole nother level how do you describe your style
00:12you know i feel like it's just an extension of me as an artist you know all things i sort of
00:17view the world and experience the world in a very creative way um and i have two settings
00:22i'm either butt naked at home i used your butt naked at home there we go that's the headline
00:27or like or just doing way too much you know or doing all the things at all all times i'll never
00:33probably be the girl like i try so hard to just wear t-shirt and jeans like i have t-shirts and
00:38t-shirts rolled up in a t-shirt drawer and it just never happens you don't strike me as a t-shirt
00:42yeah because it's like if i'm wearing a t-shirt i'm wearing nothing that's not happening right so
00:46do you use a stylist or is it all you i haven't used the stylist yet no so this is you came up
00:52yeah this is incredible i think because you know when you have such a a a strong point of view i
00:58think about your own sense of style you know you just don't know how to integrate and i don't know
01:03how to articulate it to someone else like all right can you pick out stuff that's what right no like i
01:08don't i just it's something that's intrinsic i go i shop and i just kind of buy things that speak to
01:14me and i love that your fashion sense incorporates a lot of like activism like i've seen you with
01:18trayvon shirts or a rosa park shirt and that's like keep going so now we have to talk about this
01:23this bald head which i love how do you think that influences the roles that you have selected or the
01:28roles that you actually take up in hollywood you know um i think it sets me apart one um and and i
01:34know that there are a lot of women who have bald heads but i think every person um sort of experiences
01:39their own beauty in a very unique and individual way for myself before i moved to la i was very deliberate
01:46about growing my hair out i had my doobie going you were team natural oh you had a doobie no i was
01:50not even team you weren't seeing how to relax her i was i had a full relaxer i was at the dominicans
01:55like it was a religion i was like it was church i was in there i was getting that wrap done with
02:00them pins the whole shebang and you know and i did that because when i looked at television when i
02:05looked on film those are the images that i saw in abundance and so i thought i had to be that in
02:11order to go to california and be accepted and you know be seen as as somebody that they can
02:16that is castable and so i moved there and there were no 20 doobies that was not happening in
02:22california yeah and i couldn't afford that and so essentially it was out of me not being able to
02:28afford the upkeep of my hair that i was just like i'm gonna cut this hair off and i did it at a time
02:33where i thought i'd be down for a season i was like oh you know what maybe they won't be hiring
02:37or casting during the summer so i'm gonna cut my hair for the summer and i cut my hair for the
02:41summer and what it did was two things it made me um experience myself i saw my features for the
02:47first time i saw my cheekbones i saw my nose i saw my eyes and that made me have a different
02:52relationship with myself which then sent me into the rooms with a different sensibility about myself
02:57you know like my spine was straight you know and i and i sort of had an identified with myself in a
03:03much stronger way i wasn't depending on you know the straightness of my bob or you know i just
03:09all i had was myself and so i went into that room and gave them the fullness of myself and it sort
03:14of started to change their minds i think what they had written on the page in terms of like the
03:18description of the character once i walked into the room i think they sort of did a head tilt and
03:22right you know it was like maybe this actually might work you know and so it began to fling open
03:29doors for me because it was the real you because it was the authentic me and i think at the time
03:34it was a thing that they hadn't seen a whole bunch of and i think they just wanted you know
03:39something that was refreshing and and and new you know and so i was happy that is incredible there is
03:46that is a lesson in itself i mean you're dropping so many jewels and gems that is a lesson in itself
