00:00I'm very honored to be on the cover of Essence. This is the third one. I love
00:13what it stands for and it's like a Bible to a lot of people. I met Dapper Dan in 1989.
00:22I remember my friends were like, you stay in the car, and I was like, why? Where are you all going?
00:26You're all coming out with all these goodies and tracksuits, and I was like, what's in there?
00:32He was so ahead of his time. This is what the young generation wants.
00:42It's just always been something that I've gone through. My whole career idea has always been a challenge.
00:47And we're not coming, Imara and Bethan or I, from a place of aggressiveness.
00:52We're just coming from a place of conversation and friendly reminders.
00:56So we are there to speak for the others, and we do.
01:01And yes, things are changing. I stay optimistic. I don't want there to be a trend.
01:06I want it to be real. And only time will tell that it's real and that it's equal.
01:11It's fun dressing up. But I think beauty is always from where they think the person's light is their beauty.
01:21And I don't feel I've ever been someone that's a fake human being.
01:25I feel like maybe I've been too authentic, but at least I've been authentic.
01:30And I'm really authentic.
