What is reverse affirmative action? A term made up by The OverExplainer, that explains the beliefs of people who attempt to use their powerful means as a makeshift policy to give their offspring a seat at a table they don't even have the grades for.

00:00Any time equality is attempted and programs are implemented to make said
00:03equality happen, the privileged cry out reverse racism, reverse discrimination.
00:09Enter a little something that is a complete myth that I like to call
00:14reverse affirmative action, aka privileged parents paying and scamming
00:20their kids way into college. I'll give you a moment to roll your eyes to the
00:23white meat. Now, allow me to over explain this ridiculous concept to you.
00:30First of all, let me tell you real quick exactly what affirmative action is so
00:36that we're all clear. Affirmative action is an admission policy implemented within
00:40higher education and the workforce. It allows for equal access to college and
00:45employment for the historically disenfranchised, rejected, or
00:49underrepresented, like namely black people. And since we're being honest, affirmative
00:54action was actually intended to end and correct the way racism allowed for
01:00discrimination to keep people of color away from opportunities. That's all.
01:06You know how the privilege acts when we try to get equal treatment. Crazy. They
01:12want to lay down, flip it, and reverse it. Affirmative action does not mean that black
01:18folks get to go to college for the free. Nor does it mean that we're chosen first
01:22out of a pile of other qualified or unqualified, stay mad Abby, white applicants.
01:28It merely gives us a chance to be chosen. This is how privilege works. We've been so
01:34indoctrinated in American culture to imagine that the coveted spots in Ivy League
01:38schools are already promised to white students. And that's just not true. I'm
01:43glad the privileged scammers revealed something that we all needed to be reminded of. That
01:48marginalized groups are often locked out of the systems that help their wealthier
01:51counterparts. We've been reminded that historically, merit hasn't always been a
01:55fair consideration in qualifying. And we've also been reminded that inequality's hold
02:00on America has made a broken education and economic system increasingly worse. Affirmative
02:06action has always been a problem for those without melanin who don't benefit from it. It's as if a quality
02:13for us means discrimination for them, ma'ams and sirs. Discrimination against
02:18people of color is the very reason we need affirmative action in the first place.
02:23Two years ago, the Trump administration attempted to sue schools over their
02:28affirmative action admissions policies because, and I quote, the policies
02:33discriminate against white applicants. Hard. The Trump administration needs to
02:38keep that same energy when it comes to the reverse affirmative action concept.
02:42Especially considering the black mothers who were arrested and faced criminal
02:47prosecution for using the addresses of relatives and family and friends to get
02:53their children into better grade schools. Come on, see this clearly. Imagine
02:58believing that when black people receive benefits to even the playing field, it takes
03:02away from the poor white people who mostly believe that those benefits are already
03:07theirs to claim. White or reverse discrimination is a mythical belief, but the
03:11mere belief of it admits that discrimination actually exists. According to a 2016
03:18Public Religion Research Institute poll, 57% of all white people and 66% of the
03:24white working class believe that discrimination against white people is as big a
03:29problem in America as discrimination against black people. Most of these white
03:33people also believe that it's gotten worse for them since the civil rights
03:36movement. Where? White victimhood. I would love even just one receipt. There's got to be a paper trail, right?
03:45Until the next Great White Scam, I'm Danielle Young and this is The Overexplainer.
