Kendrick Sampson from "Insecure" is known to be racial justice advocate, so when ESSENCE asked him if we're ready for a Black woman president, he had this to say.
Transcript
00:00Are we ready for a black woman or even another black president?
00:04Man, that's a real one. I mean, 100%.
00:07Is the country ready? I don't know.
00:10But I 100% believe that a person of color with the right ideals and issues,
00:18because, you know, all people of color ain't the right people.
00:22You know what I mean? But I do believe...
00:24We ain't asking Ben Carson to run.
00:26Listen, in order to liberate all of us, you know,
00:30we have to aim at liberating the most intersectionally oppressed
00:34so that inevitably you have to deconstruct all the other levels of oppression
00:38in order to free that person who is most intersectionally oppressed.
00:41And someone of privilege, like a white straight man,
00:45does not have to think about that 24-7, right?
00:48So they're not forced to think about that.
00:52They have the privilege of maybe saying that it can wait a little bit longer.
00:56Exactly.
00:57And we don't have time to wait.
00:58People are hurting right now.
00:59There are children being separated at the border.
01:01Concentration camps being built in life.
01:03And our children are still dying in the streets being shot by police.
01:06Say that.
01:07And state violence is real in a way that it hasn't been before.
01:11And hate has been amplified and exacerbated.
01:14And people are proud of it now.
01:16And we have to stop that.
01:18And I do believe that the right person of color
01:22or the person with the right intersectional mindset,
01:25I'm not saying it has to be, but it's more likely to be,
01:29especially a woman of color,
01:31that has to keep in mind those intersections more than anybody else.
01:36Right.
01:37She's forced to live at those intersections
01:39and keep that on her mind at all times.
01:41So I'm looking forward to eventually, if not this time around,
01:47I think it'll set the stage.
01:49But I think there is a candidate that's not running yet
01:54that might be a good one.
01:55But it's a, you know, who knows?
01:58It's already a crowded race.
01:59But I'm looking forward to saying Madam President soon,
02:04you know, sooner than later.
02:06I love the vibe of that.
02:07Sooner than later.
02:08Also, Kendrick Sampson for president.
02:09Did y'all just feel that long?
02:102024?
02:122030?
02:13I do think that we, regardless,
02:16we need to elevate women of color,
02:18especially because of that intersectional mindset,
02:21to positions of power,
02:22and people need to step down in order to do that.
