00:00how are you planning for retirement whenever that time comes what are we
00:06planning we have what we have set up we have IRAs set up we have a 401k set up
00:12we have some investment properties that we have and we have a diverse portfolio
00:17the key is we are diversified so we don't want to put all of our eggs in one
00:22basket so that's kind of what we're doing to plan for our financial destiny
00:26and how do you share the importance of financial well-being with your children
00:31of first of all we started out early telling our kids it's important to keep
00:37your credit keep your credit and know about your credit and keeping your
00:41credit knowing your credit scores and their dad is like even with starting
00:46even earlier on how to balance money and keep save some money yeah by the time my
00:51kids were like 15 no earlier than that you like feel they would they were
00:56managing our checkbook by the time we're 15 they knew how to write checks and do
01:01all that by the time when they were 18 years old so I think it's important that
01:06we teach each teach our kids about the value of credit the value of that because
01:11you know I didn't know that growing up we didn't we didn't have anybody to tell us
01:16that because my mom really didn't know you know she had a value of it yes she had a
01:20third grade education so it's like a lot of things the Lord has really put
01:24people in our lives to help us to get to where we are and a lot of times we
01:29have to give back like we are now talking about it to help you and your
01:33family so we can move forward in teaching our kids and that way our kids will
01:37have a head start from where we started because I want to make sure that I keep
01:41all of our kids well three of our kids work in our business and they run our
01:45day-to-day but I had to make sure that they they knew about the value of
01:49finances of course to carry on the business yep yeah and I know you both
01:54are active givers and churchgoers so how do you allocate money for charity and
01:59giving back to the church community but no what we've done is we take in and for
02:05our local area we've kind of helped some charities there but we not only just give
02:10to the charity we actually give our hands meaning we go there we help give out
02:15baskets like when there's like food and putting baskets together but to just to
02:21be hands-on because sometimes you may not have it financially to give to it don't
02:25to a charity but you can give your time and I think you were asking how do we
02:28allocate money for church and we're verse and we believe in tithe and offering
02:34that's just for me in my house I don't know about for everybody else I believe that
02:39that's one of the principles of being blessed for us yes and so we do that and
02:43like she said we it works oh it works hallelujah man it works and like she said
02:50not only do we give our finances to charitable people but we make sure that
02:57we're working a lot of times we just give money they not only need your money some of
03:03the charities need your hands to work and help make these things happen
03:07absolutely absolutely and now for our State Farm agent Felicia what are three
03:12lessons we can teach our families about money and finances that is a good
03:17question you know that was very hard to just determine what are three quick
03:23nuggets that people could take and use beyond today and I thought we would start
03:29with this the first thing that we need to do is get a better understanding of the
03:34difference between needs and wants there are lots of things that we purchase that
03:40we've deemed as necessities when in reality they're just the conveniences and
03:45luxuries that we have the second thing we can do is is we can get a better
03:50understanding of the impact of saying yes all the time yes to ourselves yes to
03:57our children and we need to learn to start saying no and what I mean by that
04:01is simply this no is not never no it's just a delay and it means not now we need
04:09to learn how to embrace the discipline of delayed gratification just because it's
04:14on sale does not mean it's meant to be purchased we'd be saying that who that was
04:19the Lord who said oh the Lord the Lord put it in my way and lastly I would say we
04:28need to locate ourselves basically we need to get an understanding and the
04:35impact of knowing what we own and who we owe and sometimes that can be painful at
04:41first but you don't have to do it alone there are 19,000 State Farm agents
04:48collectively like myself across this country who's made it their purpose to
04:52help individuals and families and businesses and nonprofits to eliminate
04:57debt protect what they have and accumulate wealth at whatever level of
05:01calling and responsibility that may have very nice can I piggyback off of that one
05:07thing that we have to do and we have learned to be honest where we are
05:10financially that's it once we're honest with where we are because that's
05:15something that we had to look at is like wow this is a mess but that's no
05:20judgment we just have to learn to be honest and start to move forward to our
05:25financial destiny and then being financially free yeah and can you share
05:30your thoughts on the importance of creating wealth for your family and the
05:34next generations this topic is near and dear to my heart because we have a moral
05:40obligation and responsibility to leave behind more than debt and regret to the
05:47people who we claim to love so much on this earth and what what what I mean by
05:53that is is that we buy things for people because we love them we've got to stop
05:59making emotional purchases we need to invest in their opportunities in their
06:04futures when we're long gone we've got to pass along well kids and grandkids that's
06:10that's right yes so what does that mean that means you need to buy life
06:12insurance yes insurance agents are not selling you anything they're really
06:17saving your family legacy so being honest and stop the avoidance seek out that
06:24local State Farm agent who can help you plan and invest for your family's future
06:29because it's not fair to your family to have to figure out scrapper on the just
06:34even put you in the ground it's really not fair can I tell you how many
06:38funerals we done paid for I mean because our families didn't do that you
06:42know my that's one thing that my mom I can say did do for us and showed me about
06:47life insurance early that's the one thing that she did have you know for her kids
06:52you know especially up until they got grown he's like so there it is something
06:56that's very important that you do take care of your life insurance and think
07:01about getting older but always be young so we have to think about it and put money
07:08back for when you get older and also I'd like to piggyback on that and say life
07:12insurance is not just what we've heard of or what we grew up with their life
07:17insurance products that you can use while you're alive for those weddings
07:21those major purchases and then you can have it to leave behind for those when
07:26you've passed on because you build cash value for those who didn't know it I
07:31didn't know it a few years ago lastly let us know what projects you each have
07:37coming up and where we can find you on social media but we were currently
07:41promoting our book us against the world our secrets to love marriage and family
07:46what we talk about our finance you know where we've come from financially we
07:51celebrating this 31 years we also have a project a CD us against the world the
07:57love project what we wanted to just simply make good music for people to just
08:01simply love we didn't want no and even for our Christian people because sometimes
08:06some of us don't listen to R&B music but for those who we made something that
08:11it's from us for us to us and it you know something that we didn't have to you
08:16know booty call music slap it pop it rub it pop it but it's just good love music
08:23for you know when you're with that person that you love and I mean it's like when
08:27you're riding you know having dinner or just oh we can get we together intimate
08:33moment because you know we want to go when we together yeah I love Jesus I love
08:38the Lord all of that but but when we together we together I don't want to sing
08:43Jesus we'll work it out no I'm not singing and I'm definitely not singing
