00:00My little seven-year-old, she would say,
00:02I love your hair. I want hair like yours.
00:05I want to be your complexion.
00:06And I took her to the mirror just like I took myself to that mirror.
00:09And I said, say that you're enough.
00:11Say you got that black girl magic words.
00:15I feel that God places people in your life
00:17because I know I've had so many different angels, as I like to call them,
00:21that I feel that God perfectly, in his timing, his perfect timing,
00:24placed these women into my life for a specific reason.
00:29You know, if I was going through confidence issues,
00:32I remember he placed Coach Beverly Kearney to whip me back in shape.
00:36Girl, you better go in there. You know what I mean?
00:38And it was what I needed at that time.
00:40You know, when I came out of D.C., like out of Destiny's Child,
00:44there was a moment of, okay, what am I going to do next?
00:47How did I end up in Atlanta with Adria? You know what I mean?
00:51A motherly, nurturing spirit who comforted me and was like,
00:56dust yourself off, baby. Let's go to church.
00:58Let me just, let's go to these, you know, women conferences.
01:01Let's pray together.
01:02Like, she helped me to build my prayer life.
01:04She helped to get me a, I got a better understanding of who God was to me.
01:11Our relationship, I started to build a relationship with God.
01:15And I found comfort in that instead of comfort of trying to figure out what I wanted to do next.
01:22I had to seek him first before I could make any move.
01:26Even when we're going through something, and yes, we always have God,
01:29but we have to make sure that we connect with our sisters as well.
01:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:33You know what I'm saying? Because God can speak through others as well.
01:35Absolutely.
01:35I'm so proud of you, Aduxie, with your foundation.
01:39You have brought so many awesome women mentors together to help women in their time and need.
01:45Women who have been through abusive situations, domestic violence.
01:50Not only that, people that have dealt with confidence issues.
01:53You were one of those mentors.
01:54I mean, you saw that in me, and you pan-picked me to stand in front of this group of women
02:00and speak my truth and hopefully help somebody in their time and need.
02:05My foundation is faith-based.
02:06Yes.
02:07So what really, the moment I realized that I wanted you, not only just as a friend,
02:13but to help me on that journey of mentoring young women.
02:17Remember when we went to Hawaii?
02:20Yes.
02:21So I wake up, I look outside, she's on the balcony, praying, listening to gospel.
02:28That's real.
02:28Yes.
02:29I said, that's my friend.
02:30That's every morning.
02:31That's, yes.
02:32As a matter of fact, there's not been a place where we haven't been together where that's not the case.
02:36Her praise music is happening every morning.
02:39And I used to be like that.
02:40Yeah, and it got me to start doing that.
02:43In the dark stages, I always listened to gospel music.
02:45Yeah.
02:45So that's where I think we connected.
02:48Are you about to cry?
02:49And you, oh my goodness.
02:51Guys, I have a fresh set of lashes on.
02:54Y'all better leave me alone.
02:55Y'all know I'm, I just had a baby.
02:57I'm emotional.
02:58Oh my goodness.
02:59But that, that honestly is when I was like, this is my friend.
03:04Because it's, it's also encouraging.
03:07It's also inspiring.
03:09I used to do that.
03:09That's what got me through a lot of childhood traumas, you know, living in Gabon.
03:14So, thank you for being you.
03:17Oh my God.
03:19And.
03:19Make me alone.
03:25I'm going to cry.
03:27So let me out.
03:27Leave me out.
03:28No, listen.
03:29No.
03:29I'm a real shoe dog.
03:30I have a few thug tears that I'm holding back myself.
03:32Oh my God.
03:33You really do see.
03:34I saw her zone out.
03:35Are you welling up?
03:36Those are thug tears.
03:37Do we eyes happening?
03:38Hey, you taught me that phrase, thug tears.
03:41Thug tears.
03:41Thug tears.
03:42Okay.
03:43They don't, yeah.
03:44You don't mean anything.
03:44No, that's a sweet moment.
03:46I credit you for bringing me closer to God as well.
03:48We've been on like, she took me on my first spiritual retreat.
03:51Yeah.
03:51And like a couple years after that, we went on another one.
03:54Like she's the cat, the catalyst for me even.
03:57Yeah.
03:58Because I did have my years like you, like where I was running from God.
04:02And she was the soul we need, some tissue.
04:06But Latoya was the reason.
04:07But you are that for everyone in your world.
04:10She is.
04:11But hold up.
04:11That's who you are.
04:12I got to high five you because when you need those moments to just sit still for a moment,
04:18for a moment, you take them and you're not afraid to.
04:21That's called getting still, getting centered, getting focused on yourself and not being,
04:28not caring about, oh, where's Carrie and why she's this and why now?
04:32You don't care.
04:33And I love that.
04:34And I do know if you, you're not afraid to say no.
04:38And a lot of us, especially as women, we're terrified to say no because we don't know what's
04:42on the other side of that.
04:43And you have always been able to take your feet and say, hold up.
04:47No, I'm cool.
04:48I'm going to be over here for a minute.
04:50Y'all can have that.
04:51I'm going to check in.
04:52But I need this.
04:53I think what allows that to happen is like, once you have gone to a certain low, you
05:01don't fear it anymore.
05:02Right.
05:03That's true.
05:03Once you've gone to rock bottom and made it through, there is not a fear of anything,
05:10really.
05:10There's not a fear of another.
05:11You don't fear rock bottom because you know you can conquer it.
05:13I think that in so many ways, and this is the thing that I love about my friendships
05:18with both of you guys, is you both inspire me to just be a better woman, period, through
05:25things that you do.
05:26Thank God for friends.
05:27Thank God for real, true friends.
05:28Thank God for it.
05:29Not for my girls.
05:31You got a power about you.
05:32I'm going to call it out right now.
05:33Y'all are bad.
05:34Y'all are talented.
05:35You always saw the beauty that is in you.
05:36Come on.
05:37Inside and outside.
05:38It's okay to love you.
05:41It's a necessity.
05:42It's a necessity.
05:52To help.
05:53To help.
05:54To friendship, sisterhood.
05:56Love.
