00:00so you see this video on Monday and what's the first thing that comes to your mind it was just
00:19another reminder that black girls are not afforded the same protection as other groups of girls are
00:27in this country and it's it I was sick to my stomach I watched it and I said to myself wow so this must
00:35been and I need to have gone near my head but what a slave owner must have looked like taking someone
00:41who whatever quote unquote talk back or whatever and the other thing that got me was and I know
00:46there's reports now of a girl standing who yelled at the cop and he got arrested but the look on
00:51everyone's face as if this was normal yeah like nothing was not nothing nothing was wrong but
00:57they had seen this before that was the other part that was sort of sickening to me so in 2015 like
01:02as you we've all seen like there's been at least like four or five videos that have been deeply
01:08troubling of seeing young black girls being assaulted by people in law enforcement is anything
01:15going to change you feel like I mean I will say that one thing I think that we have a lot more
01:19of now is this accountability I mean the fact that there was a kid videotaping that had the presence of
01:25mind to do so and we saw the same thing in McKinney Texas with the young girl who you know was pinned
01:32to the ground and her bathing suit people are demanding answers you know parents got together
01:36immediately and demanded answers you know from you know that the cops and everything I was listening to
01:44NPR and they were saying how some new recruits I think for in NYPD they have to watch a play call
01:50um Anna Anne Frank and Emmett and because it kind of flips the conversation I think and the Anne Frank
01:58story is told to Emmett Till's eyes and versa vice versa and they're taking these 18 year old recruits to
02:04watch to kind of help give them a foundation for race relations and how they should be treating people
02:10doesn't hurt you to your core to hear black people say well she should have been compliant she should
02:17have got up I mean she should whatever he was asking her to do she should have done whatever he was
02:21asking her to do as though that's a justification for what he did like it's okay but that's just like
02:26you know post-traumatic slave disorder you know what I mean that we've got to be quiet like don't
02:31don't disturb master don't you know what I mean but no we've got to break that thinking break that
02:36mentality black kids are disproportionately over punished for the same in incidents as their
02:46white counterparts not everybody's gonna be like a you know standout student and always be super
02:52respectful but that's like what adolescence is yeah yeah I mean could you imagine if this were a black
02:57officer and a young girl I mean he would have been over the police would have been there to arrest him
03:03right yeah the fact that we're having these conversations I think is really important but
03:07the fact that we have to get to this point to to to have them I think is really troublesome and you
03:12know I'll say this being a parent of a five-year-old you know sometimes I'm thankful that I have a little
03:16girl but now I have to realize you're teaching your kids like okay go to the police if something you
03:22know if something is someone bothering you someone's chasing you go to police but now y'all think well but
03:26be careful with the police if the police is treating you bad then go find out you know what I mean
03:30like now it's a different conversation you have to have with your kids then as opposed when we were
03:35growing up that the police were supposed to protect you yeah and I'm not so certain about that anymore
03:39it's really just about humanity um we're not just afforded the same uh it sort of innocence and
03:45humanity but I do understand about accountability and the more and more this stuff gets out there
03:49maybe the more it'll sicken sink into people's minds like okay I need to do better I can be better I
03:56I could be a better human to someone yeah
03:58thank you
