00:00To be here today, really, I never thought in a million years that the world would wake up
00:05and listen to just ordinary women of color and take us really, really seriously,
00:09especially against someone so powerful and so beloved.
00:16We had to bring awareness and try to get in touch with our daughter.
00:19So this is one of the ways that we can get in touch with her through this documentary,
00:22and it brought extremely people to understand what was going on behind closed doors.
00:28You know, a lot of victims have come forward, not just R. Kelly's,
00:31just people in general that have been abused, and that was really our goal, was to help others.
00:35When they first contacted me about the documentary, I was a little leery,
00:39but I wanted to get the story out internationally and to the world.
00:43And Lifetime and the production company, they did deliver on getting that story out to the world
00:49so people can know the true R. Kelly.
00:52At first, I was embarrassed, and I thought I was the only one,
00:54and because I was old as I was when I was abused by him,
00:57I was more, it was more about shame and worrying about what others would say.
01:01But as time has passed, I have grown a thicker skin,
01:04so those that have, the naysayers, don't bother me anymore.
01:07All I really want was just to serve, so that's really what it's about.
01:12I'm grateful, and I don't think I would change anything.
01:17The documentary, it definitely set the tone for not only myself,
01:21but ladies after me, before me, to come forward.
01:25When I heard of the indictments, it's like you're shocked,
01:31because if you watch the documentary, we all said we really wanted him to get help.
01:36You know, and unfortunately for him, and fortunately for us,
01:44people took it a little more serious than that.
01:46You know, like he has to be held accountable.
01:48So I just, I hope that the young women that are still with him
01:53really can get out and start to live a real life.
01:57Self-care is very important, getting your healing through your therapist,
02:03close friends, and people that you trust.
02:06And you heal as you reveal.
02:08When you come forward, you're healing in that process.
02:10Exactly.
02:11And we were able to do that, some of us,
02:13through just talking about it in the documentary.
02:15That was a healing process.
