00:00Hi, this is Yolanda Sanguini and Essence Live, and I'm here with the cast of The Color Purple.
00:08Jennifer.
00:11Danielle.
00:14And Cynthia.
00:16I can already feel the sisterhood.
00:18Yes.
00:19Do you feel it?
00:19I feel it.
00:20I'm here, like the song says.
00:22That's right.
00:23And you know, Color Purple means so much to each and every one of us.
00:27The movie, the actual book.
00:28Tell me about how you interact with The Color Purple, even if it's the book or the actual film.
00:34Well, you know what's crazy is I started out every journal entry with Dear God now because of the book, you know what I mean?
00:41And because of this journey that I'm about to take.
00:43And it's actually the first Broadway show that I ever saw at 15 years old, and it changed my life and made me want to become an actress and be an artist.
00:52So it really means a lot to now step into the role of Sophia that Oprah originated and start my first Broadway debut with these women who are doing their first Broadway debut.
01:05It's exciting.
01:05Well, I don't know, for me, I guess Color Purple is something like you cannot detach from.
01:13It's like once you've seen it, once you've tapped into it, it's a part of you.
01:17And I think just being a woman alone, you know, makes you interact with it and walk away with something from it.
01:23You know, like the power and the positivity to me that Suge brings or the strength that Sophia has, you know.
01:31Celie, she's like the base of it all, you know.
01:34So it's like all of those things somehow becomes instilled in you, you know, and you carry it with you.
01:40And I think that's why it's still here today.
01:42You know, I feel like everyone, in essence, at the office is always like, you told Harpo to stay with you.
01:48There's these lines that stay with you for years now.
01:53Yeah.
01:54How many times have you seen the movie?
01:56Oh, hundreds.
01:57Is this one of those shows, movies that whenever it comes on, you watch it.
02:01You don't turn on.
02:03It stays with you.
02:03You have to watch it.
02:04There you go.
02:04That's what exactly it is.
02:05And, you know, it's musical.
02:06So Jennifer and Cynthia, Daniel, are you going to be singing in this?
02:10Yes.
02:10I'm playing so big.
02:11You said, you know what I heard?
02:12Yes, ma'am.
02:13So we're going to get to see you singing.
02:15Yes, ma'am.
02:16Yes, you will.
02:17We are so ready for that.
02:19Cynthia, what tips have you given to Jennifer and Daniel?
02:21Because it's going to be a whole different life.
02:23Eight shows a week.
02:25You live a little bit like a monk.
02:29You just have to basically just take care of yourself.
02:31We will take care of each other.
02:32I will make sure that I will try and help as much as I can.
02:35Just look after one another.
02:36We look after each other.
02:37That is the main thing about it.
02:38I always say that once you have each other's back, you can't go wrong.
02:41And the beauty is we're going to have yours too, being that she's from London.
02:45You know what I mean?
02:46We'll be your family.
02:46Yes, away from family.
02:48Yeah.
02:49She has us too.
02:50The Color Purple, the musical coming to Broadway.
02:53November 9th.
02:54Oh!
02:54Review start.
02:55We got you started.
02:56Hallelujah!
02:56She worked!
02:57In
