Street Style: Ashley Ryles
Transcript
00:00My name is Ashley Riles. My brand is called R Riles. I've been designing for a while but I
00:21haven't, I say, gambled on myself until about two years ago. The fact that I got
00:26laid off from my job pushed me into creating a Riles and I felt as though
00:30that I wanted to expound on my passion. The design of the cruise inspires me in
00:38creating the design for my collection because it's not only very sleek it has
00:43all the curves in the right places and I feel like how the line across the door
00:49like wraps around the car is how I want the seam to wrap across the front of the
00:53bus of the jumper. I feel like a woman wearing this, you know, getting out of
00:58the Chevy Cruze feels confident. It's effortless. In the back maybe the clean
01:03lines and the stitching. I love top stitching when it comes to design. I
01:07would never run out of creativity. It's one of the first vehicles that has Wi-Fi
01:12access. Who wouldn't want that? Could you imagine maybe going on a trip with family
01:16and friends and always being connected? In meeting Ron Bass today I'm definitely
01:23looking forward to picking his brain. What you working on here? I'm working on the
01:26Chevy Cruze capsule collection for Fashion Week. Oh wow, I know how fun that could be.
01:31Yes, yes. This was you this time last year. It definitely was. It was an amazing
01:35experience. I'm looking forward to seeing, you know, how yours come to life. I started
01:40sketching and of course I've gone online to the Chevy Cruze site and I'm definitely
01:44inspired so far by color. Be free, be wild, do whatever it takes to get your idea
01:49across. You're taking me around New York, right? Definitely. Some of the places that
01:52inspire me most in New York. You got walking shoes? Let's get it. I definitely do.
01:56Why the bridge? What inspires you? The lines as far as like structure. And every time I see it, I find something new. You know, a new line. Something else I can emulate and relate to clothes.
02:10Tell me, how do you stay authentic? I think when you find appreciation in the process, that's how you can remain authentic. Keep that. That optimism is what will help you build a
02:19and grow your brand. You know, I want to take you to one of the next places, the Meatpacking District.
02:25I love the Meatpacking District. My favorite designers are here. For example, Don Von Postenberg and Matthew Williamson.
02:32It's ever-changing, which is, you know, which is innovative, which allows me to be innovative because I'm inspired by something new.
02:38I'm going to have to take that note into my own work, so thank you for it.
02:50So one of the last things, or one of the many, that inspired me is fabric. So let's go look at some material. One of my favorite fabrics.
02:55Cool. You want to lead the way? Let's go.
02:57This is Elegant Fabric. This is one of the fabric stores that I usually go to to get my inspiration.
03:07After you. Thank you.
03:08Did you see something today that when you come here now and you're seeing these fabrics, I know one thing.
03:17The reason why I chose this kind of reminds me of the bridge and, you know, those things playing.
03:20Do you do the same thing? And if so, which piece here?
03:22Oh, for sure. This here, it kind of takes me to the cobblestone almost directly, but then I can see how it can, you know, also be fun.
03:29This one here, I think, would take me to the bridge with the lines and the bridge being maybe a little bit bronze or gold or, you know, metallic stuff.
03:39I think we found some really good fabrics. I'm definitely excited to get started.
03:43It's just five pieces. Let me see if I can narrow it down. The pressure.
03:52It's very important to stay positive, believe in yourself, because even though you may not see the growth, someone else may see the growth.
04:02Just like this opportunity here. Oh, I'm getting emotional.
04:05This really means that, like, you know, if you have a dream, follow it. Sorry.
04:11This really means that, like, you know, if you have a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream, you're going to be a dream.
