00:00Hi ladies I'm Deena Campbell hair and beauty editor and today I have with me
00:08Miley she's the founder of Curlbox and we're gonna talk a little bit about how
00:15to find out what products are good for your curl type so summer's here yes what
00:21can we do I mean products there's like a million products don't I know like how
00:26do we know which ones are good for us the first thing you want to determine
00:29when picking products is what is my style preference there are so many
00:34products out there and I don't know that people think about do you want a more
00:39defined curl do you like something a little bit more loose and fluffy are you
00:45blowing out your hair and so if you're blowing out your hair then you're gonna
00:49want something that's not going to leave a heavy residue because you're gonna want
00:53that blow and flow but if you're going with a twisted style and you want to get
00:58what we call hang time you want some length to come you want to use products
01:02that are gonna be heavier and that are gonna have some oils in there so the
01:06number one thing that I tell people when they're selecting products is the first
01:09thing you want to ask yourself is how do I want my hair to look and then then you
01:15start to choose product everything is so expensive right how do you find the
01:19product that's good for you without spending tons of money the thing about
01:23these products is that after a while they can add up after you start you know
01:29all of your steps you look up and you've spent a hundred dollars if not more if not
01:33more I think that people don't realize that there are some really great value
01:37brands that they can use and so there are some things in the five dollar price
01:40point that work really well okay and if you want to sort of have one product so
01:45say you have a conditioner you can add bacon soda to that and that's gonna add to
01:49clean your hair so you don't have to have shampoo plus conditioner especially
01:53when you have natural hair add baking soda add baking soda to your favorite
01:57conditioner and that's gonna give you a really sort of a cleansing co-wash so
02:02that's a really great thing that you can do to save some money okay in terms of
02:06doing those things another thing that you can do is to stretch your product by
02:12adding some oils and so if you've got deep conditioners you don't have to use as
02:15much coconut oil olive oil all of those oils are really great so you can stretch
02:20your conditioner a deep conditioner so you can take bacon soda and that's gonna
02:24clean you can add some oils to it and now you've got a deep conditioner yes
02:29what else I mean what else women have so many different curl types yes so many
02:35different products you know when I when I go to the store I see everything how do
02:38I know exactly what's good for me though you're gonna have to try some things out
02:42and that's the part that really is tough which is why I do love sampling because
02:45you can for a low price you can try things out but sometimes you have to
02:50remember I love to tell people try the product on clean hair so sometimes you
02:58will get a curl pudding and you have tried after you've put your lead your deep
03:02conditioner you're leaving and some a serum and then you try something you're
03:06like oh my god this doesn't work and it doesn't work but you don't know if it
03:10works because find out exactly what the product does before you add it to your
03:15step I will even try I will clean my hair with my favorite clarifying shampoo
03:18and then I will try another shampoo just to see what it does so I love doing that
03:24and so I tell people all the time just take the back of your hair test the gel on
03:28clean hair so that you know what it does and then once you start to learn what
03:32each product does you can start to work on your combo because everybody has to
03:36have a combo you've got to kind of be like a scientist you know in finding
03:41what works for you and so sometimes it'll take you a while to find out what
03:46works for you and then as the temperature changes different products and as your
03:50hair grows different products and if you decide to color different products so I
03:54mean you do want to take your time and find out what works for you and don't be
03:59afraid to try some of those two dollar or three dollar products I know that you
04:03look and you're like I don't know about this but I'm telling sometimes the two
04:08or three dollar or the thing that says you know 199 or 499 there are some
04:12really really great value products out now I always say that you should try
04:17your products a few times before you give up on them how many times give it you
04:24know two times minimum and and I even will say hang on to it for a second
04:30because sometimes you use too much sometimes we can be heavy-handed with
04:35products and so we will see a friend and find out oh my god you use that and
04:41because her hair looks so great and she used it I want to put a handful in my
04:44hair so I would say if you use it the first time and you don't love the results
04:48try doing it again with a lot less sometimes you really nobody really reads
04:54the instructions and if the instructions say dime size try a dime size or try a
04:58quarter and I know you're like this is not we always say dime size it's like a
05:02handful yeah right you're gonna sometimes a dime sizes some products
05:06that's really all you need so if you didn't like the results try it again with a
05:11little bit less and then you know I say if you're gonna go for a third time try it
05:14again you know after you've given your hair so you know giving it a break and
05:19then swing back through and you may you may not know how to use the product you
05:22know so many people say oh this didn't work for me and then I find out that
05:25they don't know how to do twists or do braids or do these things and so you may
05:31need to work on your technique with the product well we need a whole other video
05:35for that right but it sounds like we have a lot of information and it's this is
05:40great you've given us so much information I'm excited I'm gonna head to the store
05:43okay I don't know about you I know I want to see what you're using let's go
05:46together and don't break the bank see how many things you can find under five
05:49dollars so if you are going to splurge okay you have a little money tax season came
05:54around you're ready to go where should you splurge I was splurged on the deep
05:58conditioner because there are so many other products I do so many things but
06:03when your hair has a really awesome foundation that usually you know deep
06:07conditioner will bring your hair back to life and so any curl type for any curl
06:11type and so I really think that you know I am guilty of a $35 deep
06:17conditioner I like it because it just does the trick sometimes after you've
06:21been traveling you've been in the Sun you want to break to immediately bring
06:25your hair back go for the deep conditioner okay awesome sounds good
