Taraji P. Henson discusses shea butter and The Global Shea Alliance
Transcript
00:00I was so moved by Jurgen's incredible celebration of the women in West Africa, who are at the heart of the shea industry, and I wanted to be an advocate for their efforts.
00:12First of all, I learned that in West Africa, shea butter is known as women's gold.
00:18For so many reasons, the precious ingredient is harvested and produced exclusively by women in Africa, empowering thousands of rural women by providing jobs and income during shea harvest season.
00:31Initially, when I first applied the shea butter to my skin, I was instantly obsessed.
00:37I also just love the story behind shea butter, this idea of universal beauty that spans the globe, and we get to be a part of it by using the product.
00:47It is women's gold, because my skin laps it up. It goes beneath the surface of the skin.
00:56We shed skin all day long, and because it seeps so deep under the surface of the skin, you're not dry. You don't dry out.
01:06I feel like I moisturize once in the morning after I shower, and when I take my clothes off to go to bed at night, it's as if I just put the lotion on.
01:16It's truly amazing. I can't stop touching myself.
