Entrepreneurs Beatrice Dixon and Jean Brownhill talk about self care for entrepreneurs during the time of quarantine.
Transcript
00:00I'd love to hear from both of you about self-care. So we've been hearing a lot about community is one aspect on how to weather this storm, but another is self-care. And as a part of that process of adapting during times of crisis, as entrepreneurs, do you feel it's most important to go even harder when faced with challenges? Or should business owners learn to prioritize and just take a pause and step back to reset?
00:23The off-season is when the great players are made. And so I do not think people should slow down. I do not think people should sit back, especially, you know, folks of color. Like apathy is like a privilege that has never really been extended to us. We have always had to do action. So I am action over apathy always.
00:47Great. So before we close, I just wanted to ask one last thing.
00:53Can I say something really quickly?
00:55Oh, sure. Go ahead. Go ahead. I'm sorry.
00:57I wanted to agree with Jean, but I also wanted to say that it's still of extreme importance that you take time for yourself, that you eat well, that you drink your water, that you go to the chiropractor, that you do some exercise, that you love yourself, and that you do go out of your way to make that time.
01:19Because you are, you're all you got. And if you're not taking care of yourself, you can't deliver for anything else, period.
01:28You can't show up to help other people. You can't show up to help your employee. You can't show up for yourself. So that is of extreme importance. And I, that's like my whole life.
01:39Yes. In fact, I follow a list that Beatrice gave me on software. That's a true story. I really do.
01:51Beatrice, we're going to be looking for you to publish that list for everybody. All right. So I just want to, I know we have to wrap up. We're running out of time.
01:58But before closing, I just wanted to ask if there's any other ways that this community at large can support you. How can they find you either on social media, et cetera?
02:12Sweeten underscore home on Instagram.
02:15Oh, sorry.
02:16You can find us. No, it's okay, sister. You can find us at The Honey Pot Co. You can find me at I am B Dixon, B-E-A-D-I-X-O-N.
02:25And even just a positive thought is a way that you can support us right now.
02:30You know, sure, if you can buy, buy, but don't feel like you got to, don't feel like you got to buy up everything because a lot of humans are going to need their money.
02:41You know what I mean? And we're not going anywhere. Stores aren't going to close.
02:45You know, we don't have, I just, you know, I want to kind of say that as a public service announcement because everything is just being like hoarded the moment it comes up.
02:53And that's great. It's fantastic. But I just want people to know that it's not, it's not necessary.
03:01We're going to be here. We're going to have it. Inventory is slow right now, but it's coming back in, right?
03:07You can just buy what you need. You know what I mean?
