00:00I'm Regina King and this is My Essence Uncovered.
00:15I can't remember specifically when I learned Regina means queen because I kind of feel like I've always known that.
00:23It wasn't an accident. My father did that on purpose.
00:26It might have been somewhere around my sister being born.
00:30My sister is about four and a half years younger than me and her name is Raina King, which also means queen.
00:38And I guess that's probably when I realized that, oh, we're queen kings.
00:45They were working with Regina King for the cover of Essence Magazine's Art Issue.
00:49We'll be styling her in a lot of different looks that are wearable art.
00:53We always exchange images and create mood boards on our own internally.
00:57So when we got the creator for this shoot, it was really cool and inspiring for us because we've always wanted to do something like this with Virginia King.
01:04In the crown, it's interesting. There's a lot of old paintings in old Catholicism that kind of represent different variations of the Virgin Mary in different lights.
01:13So it was kind of interesting to put our kind of high fashion spin on that with a Ralph and Russo and the fabric with the brass metal Gucci crown to try to make it our version of that.
01:22And we incorporated larger hoop earrings that represent our culture in congruence to that type of inspiration.
01:28This is a cover shoot.
01:29We didn't come to play.
01:30Yeah.
01:31Working with Regina was a dream. She was amazing. The December issue of Essence is good vibes and the art issue.
01:42So we wanted to take an artistic touch, artistic flair to the shoot. The styling was amazing.
01:47We had some really beautiful painterly-type pieces. My job was just to capture that the best I can.
01:53Our December issue is all about the arts. I think she's the perfect subject for our arts issue. The theme was wearable art, and so she wore graphic pieces.
02:04There were some floral inspired pieces and all of the details. I think she was a perfect model for all of those pieces.
02:09Ever since 227, I think we've all been fans. She was just amazing.
02:14It's an honor. You know, there's so many shades of us that aren't able to be seen on covers.
02:22And Essence gives an opportunity for that to happen.
