00:00Why did you start the Queen Collective, for those who may not know?
00:04And why were these two films, Gloves Off and Tangled Roots, just sort of emblematic of the
00:08stories that you thought needed to be shared?
00:11Well, as you just introduced both of these, or three of these amazing director, producers,
00:18they're already critically acclaimed.
00:20They've already been putting in work.
00:21They should be directing their films.
00:24They should have an opportunity to direct whatever it is that they have creatively
00:27conceived and should be able to execute that with full support.
00:34And unfortunately, it is not the case for many directors, female directors.
00:40And so I shouldn't even have to start this initiative, but it's a bunch of stuff we
00:44shouldn't have to do at this point.
00:46What we did see was that there was a major disparity in the amount of women who are
00:51behind the camera's lens.
00:53And Mark Pritchard, who is the head of brand management for and branding content for Procter
01:00and Gamble, did a panel together.
01:02And it was a women's summit in New York.
01:05And we both said afterwards that we have to do something to change that disparity.
01:11You know, less than 10% of all commercials and movies are directed by women.
01:14And so here he is controlling billions of dollars of advertising dollars.
01:19And he wants to put women behind the camera because they want to see a more accurate portrayal.
01:26If nothing else, they want to see a more accurate portrayal of women and girls in front of the
01:33camera, in the media that you see.
01:36And so one of the best ways to do that is to put women behind the lens and give them the
01:41power to create.
01:43And we decided to start with directors because not only would we be able to see more of an
01:50accurate portrayal, but we find that directors, women directors will hire a much more diverse
01:56crew.
01:58So we're kind of hitting the birds with one stone by being able to do that.
02:02And it's been the case that, you know, the women that you have today have been able to
02:06hire very diverse crews and execute their films in that way.
02:10And hopefully give people another shot in each department to move forward in advance.
02:14And, you know, that's the whole idea.
