01:28patricia um so brie why don't you tell us a little bit about you and how you got started with brie on
01:37bras sure so my name is brianna mccarthy i am from chicago illinois i'm a licensed beauty professional
01:44a former beauty economist for essence actually yeah on a beauty bar here in the chicagoland area
01:51and i really focused on the health of the brow it's not just about how it looks is the brow
01:57in good health and so i had a lot of clients who came to me because they found out that i like to
02:02take care of brows make sure that they grow i started a program uh back in 2019 called brow rehab
02:09because a lot of the people that were coming had thinning brows they weren't growing back and they
02:14just didn't know what to do um and so i started formulating products just for them to try to help
02:20them on their journey and they were working the clients were happy and i say you know i need to
02:25take this to the world and so brie on brows was born i love that and thank you for that listen you
02:33guys have a former essence contributor here beauty contributor she knows what she's talking about now

03:04how have you been able to transition your business during this time like how how has your business
03:10been going so i basically was mostly service based before covid i planned on releasing my line but it
03:19wasn't going to be till later this year but naturally um after covid hit i did not want to accept uh clients
03:26and our uh governor made us all shelter in place so i actually had to close the doors of amani beauty
03:32lounge and um i thought to myself okay i have bills i need to do something so it was the catalyst i needed
03:40to get these products out to the world oh wow so that absolutely like catapulted you to be here so
03:49that's really really a great success story and inspiring and we love that so i'm going to give the people a
03:54little bit of time to put in their questions in the comments why don't we go through this amazing
04:00brow line that you have sure the first so people let me just ask this question first most of you ask
04:06me why brow care right and i'm like okay think of it this way we have hair care we have skin care
04:14we even have lip care yes but we do not have brow care and brows are a central part of our face and so
04:23we need for them like we care for the hair on our heads they help us to emote emotion if you are if
04:30you don't have brows you can't show that you're angry you know what i mean so um the first product
04:35that we have is my actually my signature product the most popular thing i have is my liquid gold brow

06:14customers that put it on also in the morning but if you're going to use it in the morning make sure
06:18that it's fully absorbed into your skin before you uh apply your brow makeup because it will slip and

08:36really dry skin and so i use it two or three times per week you have to basically gauge it on your
08:42skin how quickly you develop dry skin i also use it on dry patches so i get really dry okay to help
08:50remove that as well all right so we have a question from jessica hayden she wants to know how long does
08:56it last maybe for both of these like if we buy a brand new one and you're using it at your recommended
09:02usage um how long before they have to buy a new bottle so this brow scrub is going to last you
09:09at least two months because you don't need a whole lot um for it to work on your skin it's it spreads
09:16really really well now the brow oil because it's such a large bottle is one ounce and most brow products
09:23are like probably 15 mil and not 30 mil this is going to last you about three or four months it also
09:28can use on thinning patches in your um hair as well i have a lot of clients who have thinning edges
09:34their husband has their husband have bald spots so this is right to about three or four months with
09:39um regular use

10:45in patricia hello hello patricia how are you how are you you look like you're in a full-on
10:52supermarket so i could see you've been at this for a minute because look at how many products you have
10:57but we just got to talk about a few today yes okay so you have an incredible story of the journey of
11:06how you got here and selling sula nyc here so why don't you take us through cliff notes no um but
11:15take us through what the journey was i am i'm actually uh i call myself an accidental entrepreneur
11:21um i was working in a health care setting um you know what happened 2009 the economy
11:27sort of fanged i had to figure out what to do with myself but i grew up in europe and and you know
11:35um i knew of argan oil and it had just started getting popular here and i was trying to figure
11:43out what to do with it the thing is that um i didn't have the funds really to um you know like
11:51a lot of my competitors to do all this marketing with the argan so i had to come up with something
11:58different and what i came up with is um our fragrances i love fragrances you know people
12:04connect with fragrances to through you know that special moment that special place that special
12:10person whatever so i created fragrances for my argan products that's how i started really
12:19so incredible and then you were we were talking earlier and you said how you first started actually
12:28selling in japan right you know i started doubling here and then i met the um editor-in-chief of
12:35harper's bazaar in in japan and she's you know she loved the product she asked do you want to come
12:40along and i said why not you know people were asking me why japan and i went like why not
12:46exactly you know sometimes you have to lead with a yes well there was a lot of competition here and
12:53i said let me just try japan and it really worked out very well um we had um you know the person that
12:59was in charge there of sulla you know we had a few spots we were in the apartment store so yeah it
13:05was really nice yeah and i think that is a testament to sometimes the road is not a straight path
13:12sometimes yeah you're right it's not i mean you know there is if there is a entrepreneurial handbook
13:19i've never read it right you probably write one i did my little i took my little roads my own little
13:28road and that's it so but i'm really happy to be here so well you've got quite a bit to go through
13:34so let us start going through these incredible products that are available on shop essence what do
13:39you have for us first so you know the simplest thing really you know what you want to start off
13:45with what anyone starts off with is a cleanser and this cleanser is really it's super um it's very
13:52mild it has marula oil in there it has moringa argan oil jojoba so what you want to do with this you
14:00want to take a little bit of your hand just pump a little in your hand massage it onto your skin
14:06and just wash it off simple as that and it will leave your skin nice and soft without the um you
14:14know without stripping your your your yeah that dryness and so that is product number one and the
14:22second product that i really want to touch on a little bit is the um is the mineral clay mask this
14:28is really quite popular you know um it's um it's pure uh clay powder coming from the atlas mountains
14:37in morocco what it does what it does is actually you know it's like a powder so what it does you you
14:43dilute it a little bit of with water and it detoxifies your skin it draws out all the uh impurities
14:51and now since we all have to work wear masks right skin especially your chin tends to uh break out so this is
15:02right a great mask to draw out impurities and another little trick that i have is um you know i use this
15:11mask very often also as a cleanser as a as a exfoliating um i have you know i have a um i have a soap it's
15:20called um you know exfoliating olive soap and if you take a little bit of the soap with a little bit of
15:26this mask powder you mix it together in your hand with a tiny drop of water massage it onto your skin
15:34and your skin seriously will feel as soft as a peach i love it this is behind but i'm not gonna go
15:43there yeah it's really so so with the mask in particular right that takes out the impurities how
15:50often would you say if someone were to get this product how often should they use it i would say at
15:56least once a once a week um okay when you use it as a um exfoliator you can actually use it every day
16:04you know just to just to massage your skin a little with it and and get that smooth surface
16:09and when you're done with this um i love love love to use uh what the influencer friend is using my
16:19little workhouse is pure argan oil that you can use it you can use it for anything basically um
16:28you know you can use take a little drop and and massage it onto your skin and you're good to go
16:34during the day make sure that you uh that you apply sunscreen after because we always want to do
16:39sunscreen um use it um if your hair is very dry you know you can your um in your in your conditioner
16:49or your mask you know and apply it on your hair um you can use it on your body you can basically use
16:55it everywhere anywhere you know this is my little you know organic argan oil and we are usa organic
17:03certified so this is really very nice just got you covered from head to toe you see this i love it
17:11and then the one thing i mean you know that i'm um these are really our very special babies
17:19as i said um i love fragrances so i dream of these fragrances you know based on i don't know
17:27places that i've been or or use my imagination um so amazon dew was the second fragrance that i came up
17:38with i created you know i dreamed them up here in new york and they get created in switzerland
17:44so amazon dew is really for anyone who wants something fresh and
17:51you want to feel you want to feel fresh it has it has some uh a scent of green tea in there
18:00um it has the scent of orchids in there it's really you know what it's a very nice
18:06fragrance fragrance and i have you know it comes in two two versions so you have the um
18:13argan scented amazon dew oil body oil that's a little heavier for the skin um and the uh dry
18:23body oil version and the dry body oil version is for anyone who loves a body who loves the oil in their
18:30skin but you don't like that heavier feeling you really want it to be light this is really
18:37for you and you want to smell fabulous process that's really great yeah as a hair fragrance so
18:44that's it yes yeah no that's really great because then you can basically get multiple products and
18:50it'll take you throughout the year no yeah that's what i like because then in the winter we tend to
18:56want to have more heavy moisture within the summertime yeah in the winter you can absolutely
19:02go with the um with the um you know with the scented argan body oil and in the summer or if you're
19:09going off wherever you are you know this really light oil it's it's just yeah you know keep the skin
19:16moisturized come on um i just want to remind everybody you can still drop in questions for both

20:25me up so what is something that you both say to yourselves um that just keeps you going uh another
20:32day uh brianna i'll start with you well you know i have a lot of people who ask me about my business
20:38and like how fast it's growing and like what do i do to stay encouraged to stay motivated to keep you
20:45moving forward especially in covet i don't think about it as trying to make more money i don't i
20:51think we should focus on not making more money but making an impact so that's what i focus on how can i
20:57impact women how can i help them feel more confident and that keeps me going when there's like little
21:02hiccups in the road how can i serve other women and help them with the problem a pain point that they
21:08have their brows i absolutely love that and that's like leading with your why if you get connected to
21:14why you're doing what you're doing you can push through almost anything um patricia what about you
21:20you know for me really it's um it's been tough you know the past few months but what i keep telling
21:26myself uh because i have um a lot of people you know have asked me um in the past um how do you start
21:38a business and and or or i'm the fourth or whatever whatever it is you're going through you know
21:43particularly as a woman um i feel that um this whole thing where they're only second or third chances
21:50no such thing they're fourth fifth sixth seven you can you can reaffect yourself as you want you know
21:58whether you're 15 or 25 or 40 or 60 or 90 years old as a woman we can do whatever the hell we want
22:07and you know what i also feel that you know as long as we keep supporting each other there's
22:13nothing that we cannot do oh i love it that's it that's awesome i absolutely love that both of you
22:22ladies incredibly inspirational we do have one question so before we go i'm gonna ask angie wants
22:28to know did either of you invest in using a chemist to help develop your products yes i did
22:34i did i really did i have a phenomenal chemist she's also african-american so i love her even
22:43more she is just absolutely incredible i did no for my brand i did not because it's 100 natural what
22:52i did was extensive research on different oils how they work with the skin and their properties
22:58the antioxidants the vitamins their function when uh applied to the skin and that's how i
23:04formulated my product but we do have some new stuff coming that hasn't dropped yet we'll be
