Brillant élève de terminale, Charley Brewster a une vie de rêve, enviée par ses camarades de classe. Pour parachever son bonheur, l'adolescent sort avec l'une des plus jolies filles de son lycée. Son quotidien est chamboulé lorsque Jerry, son nouveau voisin, emménage. Cet homme propre sur lui et apparemment très sympathique séduit d'emblée tout son entourage. La mère et la petite amie de Charley sont d'ailleurs convaincues que Jerry est quelqu'un de très bien. Pourtant, l'adolescent le trouve étrange. Ses soupçons sont confirmés lorsque, après de longs moments d'observation, il découvre que Jerry est en réalité un vampire. Charley tente de prévenir le voisinage, mais en vain. Personne ne veut le croire...
