00:00Smartphones can be used for fun or for work, but now experts say a new smartphone app might
00:08be able to save your life. According to the CDC, every 40 seconds someone experiences a stroke in
00:14the United States, and they're the leading cause of death for Americans. But now researchers say
00:18an app powered by fast.ai can detect them occurring in real time, not only allowing
00:23faster treatment, but also faster recovery. But how? The fully automated app uses deep
00:28learning algorithms to identify stroke symptoms. These could include facial asymmetry, drooping
00:32facial muscles, arm weakness, or changes in speech. And preliminary studies indicate that the app might
00:37even be better at diagnosing an ongoing stroke than even a neurologist, with the app accurately
00:42identifying a stroke nearly 100% of the time. This is Professor Daniel Lackland, a member of the
00:47American Stroke Association Stroke Council. According to him, this is an exciting new avenue for treatment,
00:52as people often don't even know they're having or have experienced a stroke at all. Despite the
00:57damage it may leave in its wake. I think this is a very novel way of using the app to, you know,
01:05identify the or to quantify the stroke risk factors and be able to put those together and signs of a
01:13stroke in a very automated type of way, a way that we're using apps every day.
01:19And with that, you know, like this year, right?
01:20Good one.

01:42Firstly, quick Campus, a backup plan is also we're choosing, right?
