Residents opposed to a proposed rock quarry in the hamlet of Elderslie near Singleton fear the project will ruin the area's rural character and have major knock-on effects across the region's road network.
Transcript
00:00No quarry, no hall road. No quarry, no hall road.
00:04Obviously very concerned about the proposed quarry that's going in not far from here.
00:09The impacts on the environment and the community nearby, but also the hall road.
00:14The aspect behind us, we've got Eldersley Bridge, which is a heritage-listed bridge, built in 1890.
00:20Not built for hall roads at all.
00:23We've already seen many trucks go past, so adding many more trucks onto the roads is not safe for anyone.
00:29We're doing this today to call attention for our public meeting that we're having on Sunday,
00:36so anyone that's not aware of it and would like more information about it,
00:40please come along on Sunday 3pm at Eldersley Hall.
00:44There will be noise, there will be mechanical noise from the very large equipment that's going to be used
00:50to actually move the rock and crush the rock and rip the rock.
00:55There will also be dust, which is also a major, major concern for a lot of people.
00:59We're all on tank water. We all rely on that water coming off our roofs.
01:04If we have that dust going into our water tanks, we already have a problem with coal mining dust,
01:10getting into the water tanks and causing black sludge. We don't need another problem.
01:14So we'll be forced to share our road with a haulage road that will be imposed on us if this quarry gets approved.
01:22And that's our main objection, not to stop the quarry being approved,
01:26to stop the haulage route ever, ever seeing the light of day.
01:31Bye.
