00:00Rome has introduced two euro tickets for tourists to descend the steps for the capital's iconic Trevi Fountain, starting on February 2nd.
00:11In 2024, authorities proposed ticketing at the Trevi Fountain to curb crowds and promote sustainable tourism.
00:20Eliane, a tourist from Morocco, says she thinks the measure improves the experience.
00:30Before we found a problem to access the Fountain, there were a lot of people, now it's very easy, we need to go to the Trevi Fountain, we're fine, we're fine, we're fine, we're fine, we're fine, we're fine.
00:41Meanwhile, others complain about having to pay for a public site.
00:45No, it's really to take advantage of tourism, I think the people shouldn't pay for something public, and the government is taking advantage of it.
01:00Officials estimate the charge could generate an additional 6.5 million euros annually.
01:07Rome's tourism councillor, Alexandre Honorato, said the money will go to making 12 museum sites free for all the residents of the Rome province.
01:18For those who do not wish to pay, viewing the Fountain from the Piazza above remains free.
