00:00Do you or someone you know own any of these guns?
00:04West Yorkshire Police is holding a firearms amnesty until the 27th of February.
00:09The amnesty is designed to enable those who purchased one legally to dispose of them safely
00:14and prevents potentially lethal weapons falling into the hands of criminals who may convert them.
00:20Superintendent Emma Cheney has more details.
00:24The Bruni is an Italian model.
00:26The colour is supposed to denote the fact that they are blank firing pistols
00:30but what you'll see, this one here, the colour's been removed
00:33because somebody was basically in the process of converting it.
00:36Once converted, that blank firing pistol becomes just as viable and just as lethal
00:41as the original purpose firearm.
00:43One is viable and capable of killing.
00:46The other one is inert and a blank firer.
00:49We work tirelessly to protect the public and to reduce threat from firearms in our communities
00:54and a really key part of that strategy is removing firearms from the streets
01:00so that basically we stop them from falling into the wrong hands.
01:03If those firearms are surrendered to us within the amnesty period,
01:07we want to reassure the owners that they will not be prosecuted.
01:10However, anyone in possession of those firearms after the amnesty
01:13will render themselves liable to prosecution and up to 10 years imprisonment.
01:18We can suppress the threat by suppressing the supply.
01:20So by taking these blank firers off the streets through this amnesty period
01:26by seeking surrender, we can stop them from falling into criminal hands.
