The 'Friends' alum's new memoir made recent headlines for passages that appeared to insult Reeves.
Transcript
00:00Matthew Perry is apologizing for calling out Keanu Reeves in his new memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.
00:08The Friends alum brings up Reeves more than once in the memoir when he opens up about his own struggles with substance abuse
00:14and laments how his former co-stars River Phoenix and Chris Farley were lost to addiction while Reeves still walks among us.
00:22In a statement, Perry said,
00:23I'm actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name. My mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.
00:31As widely reported, Perry writes in the book that Phoenix, with whom he worked with in the 1988 film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon,
00:39was a beautiful man inside and out.
00:41Perry adds about the actor who died of a drug overdose in 1993,
00:45It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down.
00:48Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die,
00:52but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?
00:55Perry again brings up Reeves when reminiscing about Farley,
00:58who died from a drug overdose in December of 1997,
01:02again saying,
01:03Keanu Reeves walks among us.
01:06Perry's book offers no further clarification on why Reeves' name was mentioned.
