00:00Is Ben Affleck sad? Despite the eye-catching headline of a recent viral New Yorker story
00:05about his great sadness, the actor says he's doing just fine. On Saturday, New Yorker
00:09writer Naomi Fry published a story titled The Great Sadness of Ben Affleck. The article
00:15analyzed recent pictures of the Justice League actor from a training session for his upcoming
00:19Netflix film Triple Frontier. In the tabloid photos, Affleck is shown staring out into the
00:24ocean with his shoulders hunched and his colorful back tattoos visible to the camera. Affleck
00:29has previously claimed that those tattoos were painted on for a movie and are not real.
00:33With a peg of the recent glum-looking pictures, Fry recalled the sad Affleck meme from 2016
00:38and suggested the photo was symbolic of men's place in the world in 2018. Fry wrote,
00:44The image suggests not just the fall of Affleck, but the coming fall of man. There is something
00:48about this exhausted father that reflexively induces panic. We've been living in a world
00:53run by Afflecks for so long. Will we even know ourselves when they're gone?
00:57But on Thursday, Affleck tweeted at the magazine with a cheeky response that also seemed to acknowledge
01:02whether those back tattoos are indeed his. He wrote,
01:05I'm doing just fine. Thick skin bolstered by garish tattoos. Affleck also responded back when the
01:10sad Affleck meme went viral. After a Batman vs. Superman interview with Henry Cavill, in which
01:15he didn't speak, one YouTuber overlaid it with Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence.
01:20The interesting thing is that

01:22Hello darkness, my old friend. I've come to talk with you again.
01:30When BBC One asked him what the film had taught him about being an actor and director, he quipped,
01:34It taught me not to do interviews with Henry Cavill where I don't say anything. And they can lay
01:39Simon and Garfunkel tracks over it. That's one thing I learned.
01:41And while Ben claims he's just fine, perhaps his appearance of permanent gloom all started with his
01:46box office flop known as Geely. I mean, if JLo can't save us from sorrow, who can?
01:51But shout out to Ben, because you are literally all of us who woke up today thinking it was Friday.
01:55But alas, here we are. For more on this story, head to DHR.com and be sure to let us know your
02:00thoughts on Affleck's Twitter response in the comments. Until next time, for The Hollywood Reporter News,
02:05I'm Tiffany Taylor.
