00:00I was looking at the numbers today, 3,000 immigration agents in Minneapolis.
00:05That's a significant amount.
00:07And Tom Homan says he was hoping to reduce the number of agents in this city.
00:12So really, Dr. Ellie, there seems to be a de-escalation.
00:16And I have been reading some reports somewhere that this is almost the first climb down from the Trump administration
00:21because these fatal shootings have put Donald Trump's major campaign policy in jeopardy.
00:28I don't know if you agree with that sentiment.
00:31The campaign promise in jeopardy, I don't think so because I agree with Jono.
00:35They're not going to retreat.
00:36They're not going to reframe the policy.
00:38The policy is still the same.
00:40The focus of the campaign, which is closing the border and getting all illegal migrants out,
00:46starting with the criminal ones, of course, or those who cause a threat.
00:49This is still a pull factor for Trump.
00:52This is still an attraction for the voters.
00:54This is still going to be his policy.
00:56Now, definitely, we've seen things get a bit out of hand with ICE.
01:00We've seen them, you know, approach American citizens and intimidate them.
01:06Even we've seen stories about police officers who are off duty also were approached by ICE and so on.
01:12So things did go a bit out of control.
01:15Again, you're searching for everybody potentially and checking if they are legally there or not.
01:21This is impossible, and this is something that the American public have done a strong reaction against.
01:27But also we have to remember not only the American public, but also significant members of the Republican Party,
01:33including the potential governor that was running for Minnesota government,
01:39including the highest three bishops in the Catholic Church that made a clear statement on that this is not a Christian behavior per se,
01:48and this is against the teachings in that sense, it did see a big reaction that made him think twice and make him recalibrate things.
01:58Now, if you remember on the show, when it happened immediately, we said the poor guys will pay the price and they will be punished in order to defuse the tension.
02:06It took a bit more time than it should have.
02:09It could have happened on the day.
02:10It could have defused things much faster.
02:13But it's going in that direction.
02:15Nobody wants more escalation.
02:18And definitely Trump knows that he will pay the price in the upcoming elections if things don't come down a little bit
02:23and put things back on track, which is the attractive track for his voters,
02:29rather than starting to lose votes due to uncontrolled behavior of ICE members.
02:36We'll see you next time.
