00:00Namaste Acharya Ji.
00:05My name is Sangeeta and I am from USA.
00:08My question is regarding
00:10my mother's sudden death.
00:13She and my father
00:1580 years old and 86 years old
00:17went to Khufri Simla
00:19.
00:20Last year for a vacation
00:22and as soon as they reached their late
00:25.
00:25In the evening, my mother,
00:27she suffered some breathing problems.
00:30And before she reached the hospital,
00:32she lost her life.
00:34It was all
00:35.
00:36.
00:37.
00:38.
00:39.
00:40.
00:41.
00:42.
00:43.
00:44.
00:45.
00:46.
00:47.
00:48.
00:49.
00:50.
00:51.
00:52.
00:53.
00:54.
00:55.
00:56.
00:57.
00:58.
01:01.
01:02.
01:04.
01:19.
01:20.
01:21.
01:22.
01:23.
01:24.
01:25.
01:26Neither divinity nor destiny.
01:31Destiny are very relevant words here.
01:36You see, you look at...
01:41this glass.
01:43This has many molecules.
01:46Okay.
01:47Let's say there is a certain...
01:51element named x here.
01:56Very large number of molecules.
01:58All those molecules...
02:01are similar.
02:02Very similar.
02:03Right?
02:06Still...
02:08there...
02:11velocities...
02:14vary from...
02:16minus infinity...
02:17to plus infinity.
02:18The same...
02:21not that nobody has...
02:23not that nobody is...
02:25somebody...
02:26dictating them...
02:28to behave differently.
02:31Or...
02:32that...
02:33they are destined...
02:34to move...
02:35slow...
02:36slower...
02:37or...
02:38faster.
02:39It's just randomness.
02:41So, if you...
02:45will...
02:46look at...
02:49the velocity distribution...
02:51of...
02:52of...
02:53these...
02:54molecules...
02:55you'll have to bear with...
02:56little bit of...
02:57statistics...
02:58but...
02:59it might help.
03:01Don't actually see...
03:03There's no splashing...
03:04that'sering...
03:05or...
03:06it might be a treat...
03:07where...
03:08it may have to rebalance...
03:09that's...
03:10how much...
03:11that can help...
03:12and...
03:13the clues...
03:14and...
03:15that can help...
03:17and that...
03:19should...
03:20Five...
03:21...
03:22so...
03:24please...
03:25it can help.
03:26I expect...
03:27and...
03:28say
03:29that's not going to't...
03:30can help.
03:06the very
03:11ubiquitous
03:14normal distribution.
03:21You
03:26You
03:31You
03:35You
03:36You
03:37You
03:36similar. There is no difference really between them, right?
03:41Camera will soon focus on it and you'll get a very clear view.
03:46Still, you will have certain molecules here. This is
03:51the number of
03:56molecules and this axis represents the
04:01velocity, right? Same, same, no difference.
04:06No difference at all, no difference at all. Yet, certain molecules will have a
04:11very large velocity. The axis goes right till infinity, does not
04:16stop anywhere. But we won't say till infinity, let's say till here.
04:21Certain molecules will have very large velocity, large positive velocity.
04:26Moving in one particular direction. Certain molecules will have a very large negative velocity.
04:31Most molecules, because this is the number of molecules, most molecules will have a velocity.
04:36So, this is the number of molecules which will be very large velocity around the mean, the average.
04:41and these velocities keep changing also because they operate in what
04:46can be called as popularly the Brownian motion.
04:51so molecule with a very large velocity strikes another molecule with a low velocity and loses its
04:56momentum and you know the velocity abruptly changes they are all the time colliding with each other.
05:01what is to be kept in mind is that they are
05:06all alike there is no difference in them and yet there is a huge difference in their velocity.
05:11they are all alike there is no difference in them.
05:16yet there is a huge difference in their velocities though though
05:21most of them are going to have an average kind of velocity. now replace
05:26the term velocity with life span. so these
05:31are all human beings. most of them will have an average kind of life span.
05:36the average life span in india will be 60 to 80.
05:41abroad it will be 70 to 90 or something.
05:45yeah
05:46some will have more than 100
05:50and
05:51some will have 20, 25, 30 something. some might die when they are three months old.
05:56they will lie somewhere here.
05:59that does not mean that somebody is
06:01destined to die young or somebody is destined
06:05to be an
06:06nanogenarian.
06:07nanogenarian.
06:11just randomness. just randomness. just randomness. the thing in it.
06:16what is divine intervention?
06:18there is no divine intervention. there is prakrati.
06:21prakrati does not brook any intervention from any quarter.
06:26just happened. if you look for a reason there.
06:30if you look for a reason there.
06:31randomness isn't any. randomness is the reason.
06:36if i respectfully ask you a follow-up question is. why do.
06:41do. a lot of yogis or even modern day yogis. they keep saying that.
06:46we went to a certain place. say in the himalayas. and some.
06:51something was supposed to go really wrong according to our material plan.
06:55but then somebody.
06:56appeared. something happened. and miraculously we could catch a plague.
07:01or catch a flight. or we got oxygen cylinder. how does that. and.
07:06that is my question is how did that not happen in my mom's case. the.
07:11more appropriate question might be. why do people believe in such.
07:16stuff. anybody can say anything.
07:29what i am.
07:30what i am. what i am. is infinite. but as.
07:34human being with discretion, I ought to know how stuff
07:39really operates and I must know what to lend credence to.
07:44Are you getting it?
07:48Yes.
07:49So you're saying randomness is...
07:51Yes, and it is quite possible that somebody is almost...
07:54...and he still manages to have some kind of...
07:59...second wind.
08:01But that's very similar to a molecule.
08:04Having close to zero velocity and then it is hit by another molecule with a high velocity and...
08:09...and it gains velocity.
08:11Again, there is no divine intervention.
08:14Just randomness and loss of statistics at work?
08:19You see, when it comes to death, we think so much of divine intervention and as if...
08:24...there is some conscious entity at work with a...
08:29...conscious plan.
08:33To simplify the...
08:34...the matter of death.
08:35Look at the matter of birth.
08:39Is there anything apart from randomness in birth?
08:42Look at the number of sperm...
08:44...them cells...
08:45...that compete to fertilize the egg.
08:50One particular one succeeds.
08:52Is it...
08:54...special?
08:55No, it is not special.
08:56It was a...
08:57...random chance that this one succeeds.
08:59In reaching the egg first and fertilizing it.
09:04And millions of such cells are ejaculated.
09:08They all go waste.
09:09Not that they were inferior or less qualified or something.
09:14Just chance.
09:15Just chance.
09:16And since it is just chance.
09:18The wise one...
09:19...the ones have told us...
09:20...do not take all this seriously.
09:23Because it is all just...
09:24...chance.
09:26Just chance.
09:27Why are you taking it seriously?
09:28You know...
09:29...I could have taken.
09:31For example...
09:33...radioactive mutation...
09:34...even here.
09:35And there...
09:36...the whole thing would have become...
09:37...even more...
09:40...vividly alive.
09:42Because then we could have talked of some...
09:44...something called half-life.
09:48The same phenomenon...
09:49...is observed...
09:50...in radioactive materials as well.
09:54The normal distribution...
09:55...as I said...
09:56...is ubiquitous.
09:57In everything...
09:58...in Prakrati...
09:59...you...
09:59...observe this bell-shaped curve.
10:02Most of us lie here.
10:04But then there are outliers.
10:05They are here.
10:06They are here.
10:07Everywhere.
10:08But the...
10:09...more...
10:10...is the extent...
10:11...of your deviation from the mean.
10:14...the...
10:15...rarer you are.
10:16If you want...
10:17...the rarer you are.
10:18If you want...
10:19...people who are...
10:21...her randomness...
10:22...is the normal.
10:24...is what you are saying.
10:25Randomness is?
10:27Is...
10:28...the random...
10:29...normal.
10:30...and...
10:31...that's how I should...
10:32...console myself.
10:33Is what...
10:34Is that...
10:34...what you are saying?
10:35No.
10:36You don't have to console.
10:37Just realize.
10:39...that things...
10:41...do not move...
10:42...as...
10:43...per...
10:44...our...
10:44...plan.
10:45Sure.
10:46Sure.
10:47Yes.
10:48And...
10:49...things...
10:49...also...
10:50...do not move...
10:51...as...
10:52...per...
10:53...any...
10:54...divine plan.
10:54Okay.
10:55That is important to understand.
10:56Okay.
10:57You see...
10:58...we think that...
10:59...there are only two kinds of people...
11:00...there are...
11:02...those with self-belief...
11:03...who...
11:04...say...
11:05...life...
11:06...will go...
11:07...as...
11:08...per...
11:09...my...
11:10...personal plans...
11:11...
11:09And then we think that the others
11:14are the ones who surrender and say that life
11:19will go as per some divine plan.
11:23Now both these
11:24categories are similar because both of them believe in a
11:29plan. First one says my plan will work
11:34my life. The other one says God's plan will work my life.
11:39The fact is nobody has a plan.
11:45Life doesn't go according to your plan
11:47and there is no divine plan.
11:49To run your life.
11:50There is no plan.
11:51There is just randomness.
11:53But rent
11:54is bewildering.
11:58It exhausts
11:59us.
12:00It confounds us.
12:02It's like a huge insult.
12:04Somebody wanted to kill
12:09us and he came and he shot and we got killed.
12:14You can tell this and say you know I am a victim.
12:20You can narrate this tale with some dignity.
12:23But what if
12:24some stray bullet comes and hits you and you are gone.
12:29Oh there is no dignity in this death.
12:31Random death.
12:33Some random
12:34fellow fired in some direction and the bullet came and hit me and I am gone.
12:37That's human life.
12:39Because randomness is an affront to our so-called dignity.
12:44We don't want to acknowledge it.
12:45We want to be
12:49believe
12:50somebody did it with purpose.
12:52There is nobody doing it.
12:54purposefully.
12:56It is just happening.
12:57And that is
12:58what all
12:59spirituality is about.
13:01It is just happening.
13:02Nobody is doing it.
13:03It's random.
13:04Therefore,
13:05there is no doer.
13:08But we posit
13:09a plan.
13:10In positing a plan,
13:12we are positing a doer.
13:14By thinking of a plan.
13:15By thinking of a plan,
13:16we are reinforcing our
13:19belief in the ego.
13:20Because if there is a plan,
13:22then there has to be a planner.
13:24And
13:25who would be the planner?
13:26The ego.
13:27So,
13:28we want to
13:29believe in the ego.
13:30So,
13:31we want to believe in the planner.
13:32And therefore,
13:33the plan.
13:34The fact is,
13:35there is no plan.
13:34anywhere.
13:35It is just happening.
13:36And since it is just happening,
13:38therefore,
13:39teachers like Krishnan tell us,
13:41don't take it seriously.
13:44Don't take it seriously.
13:45Don't give it too much weightage.
13:50Don't lean too much on it.
13:51Don't get too attached to it.
13:54Prakrati won't listen to your attachments.
13:58Prakrati won't listen to your attachments.
13:59Prakrati has no respect for your beliefs,
14:02or feelings,
14:03or emotions.
14:04Or whatever.
14:05Why?
14:06Why?
14:07Why?
14:08Because
14:09your feelings,
14:10etc.
14:11are not yours at all.
14:12Prakrati knows your feelings better.
14:14than you do.
14:15Prakrati knows where your feelings are coming from.
14:18Where are they coming from?
14:19Prakrati itself.
14:20But you go to her and say,
14:22you know,
14:23these are my feelings.
14:24kindly acknowledge and respect.
14:25Prakrati says,
14:26what?
14:27What you are calling it?
14:29as feelings.
14:30It's just my randomness in action.
14:32And what you are calling as your feelings.
14:34Well,
14:35you do not exist.
14:36So,
14:37what do you want me to respect?
14:38There is
14:39nothing to respect.
14:40We come,
14:41we go,
14:42just as waves rise and fall.
14:44in the ocean.
14:47There is
14:48there is
14:49no rhyme or reason there.
14:50Though
14:51we want,
14:52though
14:53I fully
14:54appreciate and respect
14:56that
14:57when it comes to loved ones
14:59we want to bring the whole episode to a closure.
15:04Right.
15:05Right.
15:06Right.
15:07Right.
15:08We want to believe something happened.
15:09So,
15:10we must know why it happened.
15:14We die
15:16just as we come,
15:17randomly.
15:18We die
15:19just as we come,
15:20randomly.
15:19there is
15:20nothing to it.
15:22And if we can
15:24if we can
15:25if we can
15:26if we can
15:27it's hard to swallow it.
15:28But if we can acknowledge
15:29it would set us free.
15:31Yes,
15:32you're right.
15:33I'm on that path.
15:34And I don't want to take much of your time.
15:36But the last thing I will say is that
15:38for past one year
15:39I have been grieving.
15:40And it is very ironic.
15:42And it is probably your blessing.
15:44and that tomorrow is her first death anniversary according to
15:49to Tithi
15:50and you took my question today.
15:51So,
15:52I'm really, really grateful to you Achareji.
15:54I wish you all the best.
15:56Always.
15:57I'm thankful.
15:58Thank you, sir.
15:59Thank you, sir.
16:04Thank you, sir.
