00:00Okay, news came down that Bill Belichick is not going to be in the Hall of Fame.
00:05In the first ballot.
00:06All right, now, is that insane?
00:08Yes, it's insane.
00:09Is he the definition?
00:10Of course he is.
00:12I don't need to sit here and read off his credentials.
00:15Anyone with half a brain and has been following the NFL for two or three decades.
00:20Knows all about Bill Belichick, but for the sake of clarity.
00:25And being factual, here are his credentials.
00:28Okay, six Super Bowls.
00:30Won first all time.
00:32No one else has done that.
00:33Nine conference champions.
00:35Three chips, first all time.
00:36No one has ever done that.
00:3731 playoff wins, first all time.
00:40No one has had that many playoff wins.
00:42302 regular season wins.
00:44Third.
00:45All time, 333 total wins, second all time.
00:48And let's not forget.
00:50He had two Super Bowl victories from his days as a coordinator, a defensive.
00:55coordinator with the Giants.
00:56So that's eight total Super Bowl victories.
00:59He's got eight.
01:00All right, so then you say to yourself, well, how is it?
01:05Possible that he was not voted in in his first try.
01:08Let me try to get.
01:10To some basis of maybe why people didn't vote for him, and then I'll tell you why.
01:15I think that is just ridiculous.
01:17Now, Belichick is one of the five people.
01:20People who are veteran senior members who can be voted.
01:25into the Hall of Fame.
01:26These are not the players who are first time eligible.
01:29You have Bill Belichick.
01:30Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Roger Craig, Elsie Greenwood.
01:35And Ken Anderson, okay, those are the five veteran nominees.
01:40So to speak, that voters can vote for.
01:42There are 50 voters.
01:43You have to vote for three.
01:45Three of the five.
01:45Three of the five get in.
01:47So it's whoever gets the most votes.
01:49Now, did some vote.
01:50voters say, you know what, Bill Belichick's definitely going to get in.
01:53So I have, you know, I'm from.
01:55Pittsburgh and I want Elsie Greenwood to get in.
01:57So I'm going to make sure I vote for him.
01:59Or if somebody says.
02:00I'm from Cincinnati and I want the great Bengals quarterback,
02:03Ken Anderson to get in.
02:04I'm not going to.
02:05Vote for Belichick because everyone else is going to vote for him.
02:08Maybe.
02:08Maybe people thought that way.
02:10I think more so this was a situation where people want to hold.
02:15Spygate and maybe to a lesser extent, Deflategate.
02:19They want to.
02:20Hold Belichick's feet to the fire.
02:22There are reports out there from people who are.
02:25Fairly credible that Bill Polian, the former Bills and Colts executive.
02:30Super Bowl winner, you know, with certainly with the Colts kind of told committee.
02:35Members that maybe Bill Belichick should not get in this first time around.
02:40Punish him for Spygate.
02:42Now, I think Spygate was a legitimate thing.
02:44It is a blemish.
02:45Onish on Bill Belichick's record.
02:47But I do not equate that to Barry Bonds.
02:50And Roger Clemens and steroids, okay?
02:52I do not.
02:53But I do think it was a factor.
02:54And I think.
02:55I think it tarnishes his image to some degree.
02:58But I think Bill Belichick is.
03:00So far and away, the greatest or one of the two or three.
03:05handful of greatest in NFL history that even with a slight tarnish and blemish, he.
03:10Still is an easy, no-brainer, Hall of Famer first ballot.
03:15So, did people get influenced by that?
03:17Maybe.
03:17I think that Bill Belichick should have.
03:20And on his plaque, on his bust, Spygate should be.
03:25Mentioned on there.
03:25That would be his punishment.
03:27He did this.
03:28He did this.
03:28He did this.
03:29Great, great.
03:30Great, great, great, great.
03:31All time.
03:31All those stats that I mentioned.
03:34And then, oh, by the.
03:35By the way, he was convicted of this Spygate offense.
03:38And that was a black.
03:40Black eye on his resume.
03:41And that would be his punishment for doing that.
03:45On his plaque.
03:47You know, if 10 or 11 people actually did.
03:50Not vote for Bill Belichick because of Spygate.
03:53I think that is amazing.
03:55I can't tell people how to vote.
03:57I think that is really, really egregious.
04:00He is so far and away a Hall of Famer.
04:02I saw Patrick Mahomes went on social media and said.
04:05This is, he wrote insane.
04:07I don't even understand how this could be possible.
04:09So.
04:10I agree.
04:11You know, this is not A-Rod.
04:12This is not Roger Clemens.
04:13This is not Barry Bonds.
04:15This is a great, great coach.
04:17He's not the most popular guy.
04:19I know with.
04:20The media, a lot of media members didn't like him.
04:22That is bogus if you're not voting for him because he didn't.
04:25Answer your question correctly or he was kind of a jerk at the podium.
04:28He's a Hall of Fame.
04:30I know people say, well, without Bill, without Tom Brady, he didn't win.
04:34Okay, well.
04:35Last time I checked, Tom Brady was a six-round pick who he helped develop into a great quarterback.
04:40And great coaches need great players.
04:42Duh.
04:42So, once again, Bill.
04:45Belichick not being voted in his first time on the ballot, I think it's ludicrous.
04:49I think it's a black.
04:50I think it's a black guy for the committee.
04:51There's only 50 members, so 10 of them don't vote for him.
04:53He doesn't get in.
04:55So, shame on them if they did this for any kind of punishment.
04:57When news came out today via an ESPN.
05:00report that Bill Belichick has been left out of the Hall of Fame on his first.
05:05First ballot chants.
05:07I think there was a lot of shock around the league.
05:10Because of that, and justifiably so, although there is reason for it.
05:15Because of the fact that there's some doubt that he left with his role in Spygate.
05:20And Deflategate.
05:21I would say, however, that, you know, and I'm, I.
05:25I tend to fall on more of the liberal side of this.
05:28He did a lot of things that were.
05:30That were Hall of Fame worthy prior to these controversial Spygates.
05:35And Deflategate issues.
05:36I mean, he already won three Super Bowls at New England, you know, prior to this.
05:40Spygate issue coming up.
05:42But I think that at this point, the way I view this is this is a.
05:45This is a bit of a slap on the wrist on the part of the voters.
05:48It's, it's a, this is a.
05:50Human nature process, it's, it's, it's all essentially the 50 members.
05:55That vote of our pro football writers, you know, are, are many.
06:00People who've been kind of disrespected and dismissed by Belichick over the years.
06:05You know, with the way he's, he's conducted his, his, his media sessions and whatnot.
06:09And.
06:10You know, I, I think this was a way for them to, you know, maybe, you know.
06:15Again, a little bit of a slap on the wrist, you know, for that.
06:17I, I quite frankly think Bill should have been in.
06:20Um, from the start, um, what's interesting about this process here is that unlike.
06:25The baseball writers of America voting for major league baseball and the baseball.
06:30Hall of Fame, they are all, uh, their votes are public and, uh, the, the pro football.
06:35The football writers that, that vote for this are a bit cloaked in secrecy.
06:39There's no requirement.
06:40There's no requirement for them to, you know, to, to, to, to reveal who, whom they voted for.
06:44Didn't vote.
06:45For so I think this is an interesting dynamic.
06:48You know, I look at this five coaches.
06:50That there were, there were four first ballot Hall of Famers, George Hallis, Vince Lombardi, Don Shula.
06:55Uh, uh, um, Tom Landry and, and Chuck Knoll.
06:58And there's no question in my.
07:00Mind that Bill Belichick is in that league, you know, if not at the top of that, you know.
07:05Uh, for everything he's done here, but again, you know, you're, you're looking at.
07:10A very subjective vote and, uh, I think you've seen people that are trying to, you know.
07:15Send a message a little bit here.
07:16Um, and you know, the other thing that, that, that's, that's an interesting dynamic.
07:20Here is the fact that Bill was involved in Spygate and deflate.
07:25It does leave that window open or that question open as to whether, you know, there were.
07:30Other things that he did, you know, to bend the rules.
07:32So, you know, I, you can understand that, that there's a little bit.
07:35But, uh, of an element to that as well.
07:36But, uh, at the end of the day, the man has six Super.
07:40Ball titles, uh, as a head coach.
07:42Do we forget about the two that he won with the Giants?
07:45Um, you know, as a defensive coordinator.
07:48So, uh, you know, I think he was worthy of being.
07:50Being a first ballot Hall of Famer, but I understand at this moment, you know, why he's not.
07:55But there's little question in my mind that he'll be in eventually.
08:00So, uh, was, uh, screaming, was he.
08:06When would we ask?
08:09Because if he was going to put your card in the mic?
08:12We, like, he said, were he.
08:19If, uh, you know, he said, Ray, thought he said, I don't know.
