00:00First, after a weekend of turmoil in the US state of Minnesota, today a judge
00:05is considering whether to pause the deployment of thousands of ICE agents in the state.
00:10The sweeping and aggressive immigration crackdown since the beginning of December last year.
00:15has now led to the fatal killing of two people, most recently Alex Prett.
00:20on Saturday, who was shot several times after being forced to the ground.
00:25The shooting now only adding to those tensions in the city of Minneapolis with local residents
00:30taking to the streets to protest the presence of ICE officers.
00:35Well, let's start by taking a listen to the governor of Minnesota, the Democrat, Tim.
00:40So my question is, what's the plan, Donald Trump?
00:45What is the plan?
00:48What do we need to do to get these
00:50federal agents out of our state?
00:52You thought fear, violence and chaos is what you wanted from us?
00:55And you clearly underestimated the people of this state and nation.
01:00We are tired, but we're resolved.
01:04We're peaceful.
01:05But we'll never forget.
01:06We're angry.
01:07But we're angry.
01:08We're angry.
01:09But we're angry.
01:10We're angry.
01:10We won't give up hope.
01:11And above all else, we are clearly unified.
01:15Well, let's cross live to Washington and bring in Fraser Jackson, our chorus.
01:20correspondent on the program.
01:21Fraser, you heard Tim Walls there saying what.
01:25What is the plan, Donald Trump?
01:26So let me put that to you then.
01:28And what do you think the white.
01:30House intends to do today and in the days ahead in a way in the wake of these.
01:35Soaring tensions that we've seen in Minnesota.
01:40Well, there's been an interesting development this morning.
01:43We got a tweet from Donald Trump just.
01:45A short while ago saying that he's sending Tom Homan, who was the head of ice.
01:50Over to Minnesota to basically run things on the ground there.
01:54He says that.
01:55Tom Homan knows the people and likes the people on the ground, but hasn't been involved thus
01:59far.
02:00I think that.
02:00It's an interesting choice because normally the kind of person that he would send that
02:03would be Kristi Noem, the home of security.
02:05Secretary.
02:06So that has sparked sparked thoughts here that may.
02:10Maybe Kristi Noem is on the outs here and that's maybe she has kind of fought.
02:15fallen out of favor with the administration.
02:17So something to watch there.
02:18And we'll hear from Caroline Levitt.
02:20Later on.
02:21Later on in the day, she does her press conference, her press briefing.
02:25Later on.
02:25Later on.
02:26But there has been that development within the local, the local area.
02:30That's state and local officials trying to stop the US administration.
02:35And in the way that it's implementing this immigration crackdown by having.
02:40around 3000 agents on the streets that they are trying these local officials to get.
02:45that blocked in court arguments are due to be heard in the very, very near future.
02:50whether that goes the same way as Chicago and put some kind of reins.
02:55on Donald Trump's power here remains to be seen.
02:58But this is going to be an emergency state.
03:00But of course, there has been rising tensions over the course of the last few days.
03:04Since that shooting about.
03:05Alex Petty on Saturday and protests that are continuing or be at most.
03:10the peaceful protests despite the fact that the temperature there in Minneapolis is hovering
03:14around my.
03:15to minus 20 degrees Celsius.
03:16Yeah, Fraser, just tell us a bit more about that then.
03:18Yeah, Fraser, just tell us a bit more about that then.
03:20I imagine then we are expecting as we start a new day on the U.S. East Coast.
03:25More protests in Minnesota.
03:30Yeah, it's going to be basically two flashpoints now for these programs.
03:35One, which is by the site of where Alex Peretti was shot, and then the other.
03:40Is by the whipping building, which is effectively the staging post that the immigration.
03:45Customs enforcement agents have been using to stage themselves from.
03:48There's been significant demand.
03:50Activity there over the course of the last couple of weeks, but especially in the wake of these.
03:55Two killings that we've seen in Minnesota, the killing of Rene Good and then the killing of Alex.
04:00Just on Saturday, tensions there flaring, leading to more protests outside.
04:05That building, the National Guard has now been called in by Tim Walz, the Democratic government.
04:10Governor of the state to basically keep the peace between the federal officers.
04:15And the people there on the ground, the local people as well.
04:18There were videos going viral yesterday.
04:20On social media of the National Guard handing out donuts and coffee and hot.
04:25Chocolate to the protesters as they were there outside of that facility.
04:30The U.S. National Guard, they're trying to kind of keep the peace and trying to.
04:35Keep things calm between both sides, but also significantly wearing high.
04:40Invisibility jackets to try to distinguish themselves from other federal law enforcement that is in.
04:45That area.
