00:00Kyle Gass says Tenacious D will return after Aussie tour Trump Joke Fox.
00:05It sounds like Tenacious D aren't done just yet.
00:10One of the messiest, most internet-breaking tour implosions of recent memory, Kyle Gass has
00:15spoken out about the infamous Trump Joke backlash and insists the self-proclaimed
00:20greatest band in the world will rise again.
00:23Gass discussed the backlash from a Joke
00:25made at Tenacious D's July 2024 Sydney show that referenced an attempted assassination
00:30of Donald Trump and led to the abrupt cancellation of their Australian tour.
00:35For those playing catch-up, during the Sydney gig, which also happened to be Gass's
00:4064th birthday, Jack Black wheeled out a cake and asked his bandmate to make a wish.
00:45Gass replied, Don't miss Trump next time.
00:48The room laughed, but the internet
00:50absolutely did not.
00:51The video went viral, triggering backlash that led to tenacious
00:55de-cancelling the rest of their Australia and New Zealand tour, Jack Black putting future
01:00projects on hold, gas being dropped by his agent and an Australian senator.
01:05calling for the band to be deported.
01:07Looking back, Gass didn't mince words.
01:10It was a terrible judgment, he said, admitting he felt genuine panic as the situation
01:15and spiraled.
01:16Once it was picked up, it just got worse and worse.
01:20It was a DEF CON 2 for sure in the camp.
01:22And I did it.
01:23It was my F up.
01:25Gass has since apologized publicly, calling the joke highly inappropriate, dangerous and
01:30and a terrible mistake.
01:31And acknowledged that while it landed with laughter in the room, it was clearly
01:35too soon.
01:36He also addressed Jack Black's very public decision to distance himself.
01:40describing their decades long partnership as like a marriage.
01:44You go through the
01:45of these ups and downs.
01:46Gass said.
01:47You try to understand your partner.
01:50They privately resolve their issues.
01:52And after a brief hiatus, Tenacious D reemerged
01:55in late 2025 by contributing a cover of keep on loving you to good music.
02:00to lift Los Angeles, a benefit compilation supporting wildfire relief efforts.
02:05As for what comes next, no tour dates, no album announcements, but Gass
02:10sounds confident.
02:11We're going to come back, he said.
02:13It's going to be bigger than Oasis.
02:15Pretty much exactly the kind of unhinged optimism you'd expect from Tenacious D.
02:20Whether or not Australia gets a redemption tour remains to be seen.
02:25They are year two and a half posts for us should try to round truth in the side through
02:47and dive into the final news.
