00:00On Sunday, President Donald Trump attacked Jimmy Fallon over the late night host's
00:07recent comments during a Hollywood Reporter Awards Chatter podcast episode in which
00:11Fallon became choked up talking about the grief he got after tussling Trump's hair on
00:15The Tonight Show. Trump wrote on Twitter,
00:30Fallon responded to the post with one of his own explaining that he was going to donate to
00:35RACES, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, in honor of the
00:39president's tweet. Trump made his appearance on the September 15, 2016 episode of NBC's
00:44The Tonight Show just two months before he was unexpectedly elected president. During the
00:48taping, Fallon asked for and was granted permission to mess up Trump's hair, which has been a
00:52source of mockery and curiosity over the years. Fallon was instantly attacked over the move.
01:00Or to say I believe in his political beliefs or any of that stuff, Fallon told THR's
01:03Scott Feinberg during the June 19, 2018 podcast.
01:07Fallon said that the criticism that he faced just got bigger and out of control.
01:11I saw other comedians from other shows making fun of me on Twitter and I go,
01:14OK, now I'm just going to get off. They know the show. I'm just doing five hours a week.
01:19I get in at 10 in the morning, I work till 7 at night, and I'm just trying to make a funny show.
01:23Fallon became emotional when speaking of the toll that the period took on him and his
01:27Tonight Show colleagues. It was definitely a down time, he said. And it's tough for morale.
01:32There's 300 people that work here, and so when people are talking that bad about you and
01:36ganging up on you in a really gang mentality, you go, alright, we get it. I heard you.
01:41You made me feel bad. Are you happy? The host and comedian added,
01:44I'm sorry. I don't want to make anyone angry. I never do, and I never will. It's all in the fun
01:49of the show. I made a mistake. I'm sorry if I made anyone mad. And looking back, I would do it differently.
01:54Since Trump assumed office in January 2017, Fallon's show has lost more than one-fifth
01:58of its audience and has been passed in the ratings by Stephen Colbert.
02:01Last year, Colbert and the third 11.30pm host of a late-night network show, Jimmy Kimmel,
02:06received Emmy nominations for Best Variety Talk Series, but Fallon, for the first time
02:10in years, did not. To read more on this story and to listen to Jimmy Fallon's
