00:00The solution to the security needs of Greenland, but the entire Arctic region.
00:05The solution is coordinated through NATO.
00:08First and foremost, Canada will take responsibility.
00:10For our Arctic, but working in conjunction with others.
00:13Going back to Davos as well.
00:15The president was interviewed on Fox News and he talked about NATO troops.
00:20Staying back from the front in Afghanistan.
00:23I'm wondering if you think.
00:25The president should apologize for that on a secondary topic on Greenland.
00:29He backed down from threats.
00:30Do you think that's settled?
00:32Would Canada send troops to Greenland?
00:35Do you want to support the European allies?
00:37So let me let me be absolutely clear.
00:40With respect to the contribution, whatever.
00:45Everyone should recognize, Canadians recognize, and we are fundamentally grateful.
00:50For the extraordinary contributions of the men.
00:55and women of the Canadian Armed Forces in a variety of theaters, including.
01:00very much Afghanistan.
01:01We were the first to invoke Article 5.
01:04We were the.
01:05the first to send support after 9-11 to New York City.
01:10We sent 40,000 Canadian troops.
01:15serving over 13 years.
01:18on the front lines.
01:19on the front lines.
01:20in Afghanistan.
01:21in Afghanistan.
01:22in Kandahar as one example.
01:25158 of those soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice.
01:30one of our diplomats made the ultimate sacrifice.
01:33one of our diplomats made the ultimate sacrifice.
01:34thousands
01:35more were injured 30
01:40of our soldiers won the American Bronze Star.
01:45For service in combat, for courage in combat.
01:50It's an extraordinary contribution for liberty.
01:55For freedom, for human rights, defending the United States,
01:59defending Canada.
02:00for the Canadian values.
02:02Everyone should recognize that, all Canadians.
02:05in their debt now i think you had a second part but
02:10uh on greenland on greenland do you think that's settled or would you consider
02:15i think that uh i thought from the i thought from the start to follow which is uh and this is a point
02:20by the way i made at the nato summit in june in june uh
02:25the importance of reinforcing arctic security across the entire
02:30arctic theater to use that term which very much includes greenland uh northern arctic
02:35the nordic countries as well uh it has been the view of this government that
02:40nato has not put enough emphasis on that canada is putting emphasis since we've uh come
02:45into office we put emphasis on that and that the solution to the security
02:50needs of greenland but the entire arctic region is coordinated
02:55uh through nato first and foremost canada will take responsibility for our arctic uh but we're
03:00working in conjunction with others we have close and deepening cooperation with the nordic
03:05nordic gate group of countries i've met with uh the uh the nato secretary
03:10in general on a couple of occasions three occasions now about this issue i think by re
03:15enforcing that security umbrella it uh it addresses the fundamental
03:20needs of those countries denmark addresses the fundamental
03:25needs of greenland uh help support security in canada um so that asks
03:30the fundamental needs of the world that i suspect uh is is very much taken care of thank you
